Hi all,
The meeting is now set for Thursday, July 28 at 6 PM Pacific / 9 PM Eastern.
We have time available in the agenda for a couple of additional items, so
feel free to add subjects for discussion.
Just a note that there was a weak consensus at our last meetings to (1)
refrain from recording these meetings for the time being but (2) have
detailed minutes. We may revisit this question again in the future.
I hope to see you at the meeting. The Zoom meeting link will be forthcoming.

Cascadia Wikimedians,
The OpenStreetMap National Conference, State of the Map US, will occur at
Seattle University on July 23-25. Please see the attached for for further
information.
Yours,
Peaceray
Hello,
This message might be crossposted elsewhere but I wanted to share it with
the Cascadia group because I know there is special interest in open access
and academic openness in Cascadia.
OpenCon has not been historically themed for all open projects, but
instead, has been heavy on academic research and journals. If anyone in
Cascadia feels that attending this might be right, apply now, because
applications close in a few days.
yours,

Subject: OpenCon 2016 Scholarships for Wikimedians (Apply by July 11)
To:
Hello!
You're receiving this message because you mentioned an interest in
Wikipedia or other Wikimedia projects in your application to attend OpenCon
2015.
We've submitted a project & events grant proposal to the Wikimedia
Foundation to support the attendance of 8 representatives of the Wikimedia
community at this year's OpenCon conference in Washington, DC. The grant is
now open for review, and we would welcome your comments on the proposal
and, if you're supportive, your endorsement as well. You can find the
proposal at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:PEG/SPARC/OpenCon_2016
Support from the community will help ensure the proposal is fully funded.
Most importantly, I hope you'll consider applying to OpenCon again this
year, if you haven't already. We think it's important to build strong
bridges between the Wikimedia community and the Open Access, Open Data, and
Open Education communities—for the benefit of both. If this grant proposal
is successful, we will be able to ensure a robust Wikimedia presence at
this year's OpenCon, and we hope you'll submit an application to be
considered. *Applications close this coming Monday, July 11, so be sure to
apply soon!*
You can find this year's application at
https://secure.opencon2016.org/referral/wiki and if you mention Wikipedia
or Wikimedia in your application, it will automatically be flagged for
consideration for this block of scholarships, if supported by the Wikimedia
Foundation (even if you've already applied). Also, please share this call
for applications with any other Wikimedians who might be interested!
All the best,
Nick

Hi all,
Here is this month's Doodle poll for scheduling our July meeting:
http://doodle.com/poll/r34gpzp8kbgcx9da
Times are shown in Pacific by default, so please be sure to convert if
you're in a different time zone. The earliest time slot shown is 5 PM
Pacific which is 8 PM Eastern, and the latest time slot shown is 6:30 PM
Pacific which is 9:30 PM Eastern. This seems to reflect the range in which
we get the most participants.
A tentative agenda is at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WALRUS/July_2016.
You are welcome to add items to the agenda; please include your username if
you do so.
Thanks!
Pine
Hi everyone, thanks to those who could attend. Meeting minutes are
available at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WALRUS/June_2016#Meeting_minutes. If you
need to make corrections or additions to the minutes, please do so both on
Meta and in the etherpad. Thanks!
Pine
Just a reminder that we have a Sony a5000 camera and a Canon HD camcorder
that are available for members to use. The main goal is to get media
uploaded to Commons.
The camcorder and camera are currently at Wikimania and will be available
for others to use after Wiknic!
