Hi all,
This is a public update about Cascadia Wikimedians organization and plans.
Cascadia board members who were present at tonight's meeting expressed an
interest in keeping the Cascadia organization active and under the
governance of a local board. Peaceray believes that he will have additional
capacity for Cascadia starting in November. The tentative plan is for me to
hand off most of my Cascadia responsibilities to Peaceray in November. This
is contingent on further discussions with the board members who were not
present at tonight's meeting. In particular, it would be helpful if someone
else is willing take on the role of board secretary (the treasurer and the
secretary must be different people), and I am hopeful that one of the
members who was not present tonight will be willing to accept that role. If
all goes well I will hand off that responsibility by the end of November,
and after all handoffs are complete I plan to resign from my officer and
board roles for Cascadia. I will remain active with Wikimedia in other
capacities and am likely to continue to attend Cascadia events, but as a
participant rather than an organizer. (:
Regarding plans for future activities, we are hopeful that there will be
additional capacity for programmatic work later this year.
To keep the Cascadia organization "active" next year in the eyes of the
State of Washington, we need to continue to file paperwork and pay annual
fees. The board members who attended tonight's meeting are hopeful that
even if WMF doesn't fund these fees for next year (due to a shortage of
programmatic work) that we will be able to raise the minimum necessary
funds through a combination of dues and donations.
Thank you for your continued interest in Cascadia Wikimedians. Updates will
be provided as more information becomes available.
Regards,
Pine
