Membership Application and Upcoming Elections

Greetings, Cascadians, Cascadia Wikimedians User Group, an independent affiliate of the Wikimedia Foundation, is accepting membership applications. Membership is not required to participate in most public activities; however, only members elect the Board of Directors and have certain privileges. The dues for membership are *$5* for a calendar year. If you would like to join, please visit the following link to view and print a membership application. Hi all, Today we have our last fall quarter Wikipedia Lab with UW, focusing on "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles: Economy of the Pacific Northwest". Doodle poll: scheduling for Wikipedia 15 celebration mini-conference

Hi California, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia (and possibly elsewhere in the US for those interested): Please indicate your preferences regarding the scheduling of a one day (or partial day) celebration and mini-conference for Wikipedia's 15th birthday in January 2016. The current plan is to have the event in multiple physical locations via Google Hangouts. Possible meetup locations (still to be determined) for concurrent online participation: * WMF office in San Francisco, CA * Oregon Health and Science University, Portland, OR * University of Washington, Seattle, WA * Other sites in the United States and Canada TBD. Charity status update for Cascadia Wikimedians

Hi all, Cascadia Wikimedians is currently registered as a nonprofit in Washington State. Our next step for fundraising purposes will be to register as a "charity" in Washington State. We have started this process with a request for relevant records from the state Attorney General's Office. After we receive a reply from the AGO, we can complete the remaining steps to become a charity under state law. Charity status will allow us to conduct fundraising activities among the general public in Washington State. Further down the road is our 501(c)(3) application. We have requested grant funds for the IRS filing fee and for the professional services of an attorney or CPA to assist us with this process. Hopefully we will complete this process in 2016. Planning for Cascadia celebrations of Wikipedia's 15th birthday

Wikipedia Day is Friday, January 15, 2016. I wanted to find out who is interested in holding observances in our Cascadian bioregion. At a minimum, we should have some sort of meetups & perhaps a Wikicake. If there is interest, we could plan for something on the weekend days. User:Pharos has indicated that the New York City event for Wikipedia Day will probably be an unconference format, with possible video links from other regions & international cities. He asks should we do something on Friday January 15, or that perhaps more conveniently that weekend, Saturday January 16 or Sunday January 17? Some folks have talked about doing celebrations in two or more Cascadian cities on different days, so some can do a mini-road tour. What are your thoughts & suggestions?
