Hi folks,
I've been invited to come do a talk at Schulich (York University) on one of the following dates: January 11th; February 8th; March 15th; or March 29th. Normally I would say no, because it's not worth the long travel to do a small talk. But I'm curious to know if you folks might be willing to do a meet-up on one of those dates? (Or more accurately, a day or two before one of those dates.)
I'm half-interested just because I want to meet Canadian Wikimedians, and half-interested in hopes that a F2F meetup might help move you folks one step closer to becoming a chapter. I'd really like to see a Canadian chapter :-)
I'm CCing my assistant James. If it looks like there's enough interest, we'll say yes to Schulich and I'll let this list know when I'll be in town.
Thanks, Sue

I'm absolutely interested, as always. Could this be the opportunity, as we discussed in Berlin, to get people together from across the country?
The proposed dates are all far enough into the future that the new Canada Not-For-Profit Corporations Act should be operative by then. That new law does not require that by-laws be submitted with the application for incorporation. The purposes are the only complex item that needs to be submitted with the application, so the basic incorporation could take place before then.
That Toronto meeting could then be the official founding meeting that formally adopts the by-laws. If Canadian Wikimedians show that they have their act together there should be no problem getting things through ChapCom (even after I declare my conflict of interest).
A face-to-face brainstorming session will probably also do a lot for developing ideas about just what WMC will do once it's organized.

Sue, I'm normally on the west coast (along with a couple other WMC regulars), but I'll be in Ontario in early January, so if that's your date I would absolutely like to meet you. -Jeffery Nichols (User:Arctic.gnome)

I may as well third the interest from British Columbia. Of course it seems a bit silly for all of us to fly east to meet up...

Well, I live in Toronto area and if the west coast people are interested in coming, why shouldn't I?

Dear Canadian Wikimedians,
Upon reviewing the dates for Sue to speak at York University we have confirmed 8 February 2011. What I would like to offer is to have Sue in Toronto for a Wikimeet up on Sunday, 6 February. This will help reduce some work and personal conflicts for those who may need to travel to Toronto to attend.
I am happy to set up a location or work on the logistics for the Wikimeet up but often find it is more effective to work through a local wikimedian who has staged some Wikimeet ups in the past. Is anyone interested to work with me to organize the meet up or do you have suggestions of who I may wish to contact to seek assistance? Feel free to contact me off list at jowen@wikimedia.org
