We didn't have a sponsorship section in the bid page, but some information do contain
in various sections.
Conference rooms (NOT conference hall) where seminars and lectures are hosted can be
booked through Office of Space Management (OSM). These rooms are FREE (yes, you read it
right.) because me and Nat are UofT students and we can book rooms for free as long as
we're students and it's for non-commercial use. There might be overtime cost for
janitors to cleanup the rooms, but it's relatively minor comparing to the overall
cost.
Going back to conference hall, I'm not sure if we get discount if an UofT student
books it. But we have another good news. If you check the organizing team members list,
you can find that there's a UofT lecturer on there. (For those who don't know the
difference between lecturer and professor: Lecturer doesn't conduct research and
aren't permanently hired by the university. Professors conduct research and publish
papers; they are permanently hired by the university.) Anyhow, he's a lecturer in I.T.
and has contacts with full-time UofT employees. I just asked him and hopefully he'll
have some replies back shortly.
We also have endorsement from the mayor as well as MPP. But it is very unlikely that the
city is going to sponsor us because the coffers are so empty :(
So yeah, we do have sponsors, contacts, and endorsements on the bid page. It's just
that it's scattered throughout the page and not under a single section. If someone
wants to organize and place everything neatly into one or two sections, that'll be
appreciated.

Brisbane bid?
Wikimania 2008 bid organisers:
* We might want to consider revising that listing and adding on
Brisbane (I definitely don't think this was purposeful, the list is
probably from before Brisbane was a candidate).
* We might want to get those sponsorships up... and a rough outline of
the budget, I had noticed this was lacking too... :-(

That's not the only thing that's wrong with Toronto's bid page. It's
been on my mind ever since the beginning, and I had a friend of mine
(unrelated to wiki-whatever) look over the bid pages, and she noticed
it too.
A fair amount of Toronto's bid page appears irrelevant to the
suitability of being a host city. It's information on the city in
general, with no indication on sponsorships. I was going to just be
quiet on this and hope the jury picked up on this too, since I didn't
want to appear biased or unfriendly.

On a related point, does anyone else think that the following statement on
Toronto's page is a bit mean, considering that Brisbane is actually on that
list, and well ahead of Singapore and the other cities cited?
"According to the 2007 World's Top 100 Most Livable Cities rankings, Toronto
is 15th place, Singapore is 34, London is 39, Chicago is 44, Seattle is 49,
Budapest is 74, Buenos Aires is 79, Cape Town is 85. Other Wikimania
candidate cities don't rank. Surpassing Toronto are Zurich, Geneva,
Vancouver, Vienna, Auckland, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich, Bern, Sydney,
Copenhagen, Wellington, Amsterdam, and Brussels."
In the interests of friendly competition I have consciously desisted from
putting down other entries, preferring instead to concentrate on Brisbane's
advantages. However, this strikes me as a bit of a low blow. If anyone
thinks I'm being over-sensitive I'll shut up, otherwise I might politely ask
their bid team to remove or revise that little bit.
