Dear All, You may aware that there is an inbuilt Bangla typing solution is available in Bangla Wikipedia. But the typing solution is not working properly due to some changes in MediaWiki. So we are planning to improve the inbuilt Bangla typing by replacing that tool with new tool and the tool will used in all the Wikimedia projects in Bangla. The idea is the tool will have multiple keyboard layouts that are mostly used by the community. So people can use any of the layout to contribute Wikipedia without any desktop tool. Junaid P V and Shiju Alex from Kerala, India are helping us with their technical expertise to improve the tool. They are also improved the tools for Malayalam, Sanskrit, Tamil, Oriya. We improving the tool by including an Avro like phonetic keyboard layout, since most of the user in web are using that layout to type in Bangla. The new tool is not integrated with Wikipedia yet, we are testing the tool at somewhere else at toolserver. We will include it to Wikipedia after when it is bug free. Here is the link for new tool with Avro phonetic layout, http://toolserver.org/~junaid/transliteration/bn_avro.phphttp://toolserver.org/%7Ejunaid/transliteration/bn_avro.php
I'd like to request you to test it with your daily Bangla typing and send us your feedback and bugs. To send us any problem you are faceing to use that tool please use this email thread or send me at bellayet@gmail.com.
And also please send us your suggestions about which keyboard layout (non-proprietary) we can include to that tool which is the most used for Bangla Typing.
Regards, Belayet
its phonetic... i don't use it... hmm... well i forgot unijoy is probably an illegal layout by now.... you know any standard layout (not phonetic) that's open and free?? available both in linux and windows platforms...if there is any such layout, i should probably learn that...
thanks for your work anyway, best wishes

Sazzad, You can try National or Jatiaya layout of Bangladesh Computer Council. It's non-phonetic and free. If you have any suggestion about the tool please let us know.

wow! national keyboard layout highly resembles bijoy, at most 7-8 keys differ, but the difference has a pattern. keys like ট ছ are simply juxtaposed. i liked it.
by the way, do they have printed keyboards like bijoy keyboard? and, how do you insure they wouldn't be changed or banned in future?
thanks all good luck!
Dear All, This is a reminder for you to test the script for inbuilt Bangla typing solution. Try this at your regular Bangla typing and send us your feedback. According to your feedback, we will fix and finalize the tool and include it with Bangla Wikipedia. To include it to Wikipedia site, it is very important to be error and bug free. If we could finalize the tool for this layout, we'll start working on another layout.
Please try it, use it and send us your feedbacks. You can use this thread or email me to send the feedback.
Thanking Belayet

Dear Belayet,
Is it possible to integrate more layouts. To be specific, can you integrate "probhat"?! It's a semi-phonetic fixed layout.

Actually our plan was to include two layouts per Wikipedia, one phonetic layout and one fixed layout. But in case of Bangla Wikipedia we sharing it in Bangladesh as well as at West Bengal. Since Avro is most used for web in both the region. We include it as the phonetic layout. For fix layout we found there is no common fix layout that people using in both region. So we planed to have the layout which is selected by the government. Again there is no common government selected fix layout. Again we have to change the plan, and now we are including tree layouts, one Phonetic which is Avro, one BD government selected fixed layout National layout and one WB selected fixed layout which is InScript. We are implementing this tree for this time.
If we got considerable amount of requests from the community for any other keyboard layout. Then we will include it to our tool later. But the requirements are, the layout have to be free and open source and enough active interested Wikipedians, who'll test the layout to be bug free.
