Agreed with Nasir Khan. Fixing the venue @ Old Dhaka Star Kabab will not be
wise considering the persistent heavy traffic in that locality & lack of
transportation (the only viable route for new Dhaka Wikipedians is through
Gulistan which is a very crowded area & participants would have to walk a
long way to reach old Dhaka Star Kabab from there). In that case, I'm
afraid, most of the Wikipedians will not be able to join. Dhanmondi Star
Kabab, on the other hand, is in the middle of the city & has good
connectivity from all over city. It is also spacious & food is also good.
I also think that WMBD should fund & organize the event. In that case WMBD
will pay the costs incurred at the restaurant directly, so we don't have to
go through the extra layers of grant application, approval & grant
execution report submission to WMBD. In that case we may announce the event
in the name of WMBD & encourage Wikipedians to participate.

Hi,
It is a nice idea to arrange this type to meetups. Here is a chance to
meet the existing contributors of wikipedia and may be we will meet some
new guys too.
Form the mailing list and village pump discussion i found that the number
of participant is not that big. So in that case WMBD can easily fund this
event.
I have a few suggestions regarding this event venue. It is a great idea to
have iftar at the puran dhaka area. But i think it is better to sit at the
Star kabab restaurant near Dhanmondi 2. There are several bus lines
available to go there. And another thing is we may want to discuss some of
our future plans before the iftar. Dhanmondi 2 star has a huge sitting
arrangement (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor are available now) so if we can
come earlier than we can easily continue our discussion before it get too
crowded. about the date, i prefer friday.
So we can create the event page, and confirm our wikipedian friends.

Ali, being
treasurer? Time is short, please speak up soon!
As far as I see it's a community based initiative like meetups or so and
usually this kind of initiatives do not get WMBD funding. However if he (or
any other organizer) seeks funding he or anyone else can write (with a
rough bugdet, similar to a grant proposal) to WMBD officials directly. And
the tresurer (Ali Haidar Khan) sounds like the good person to contact. I
hope this will be dealt in timely fashion from WMBD's side.
In light of some community endorsement, I support
this initiative.
/me too.
