size.
Anyway, I think the cap should be whatever number the host feels
comfortable to manage - organizing an event larger than the
organizer's capacity can be exhausting.

target of 50 I thought would be too small to be able to get a good cross
section of participants from enough communities. As part of this is going
bigger the smaller the initial number the less able we will be to build
sufficient momentum for the next one. Also small size can have a negative
effect of being seen as an event for those privileged usual suspects.

Hi,
Based in the meetup minutes, there was an intent from Indonesia. But if
Australia also intent to host too then it is best that we plan this as
early as possible as the 1 hour meetup in Berlin and in Wikimania is too
short.

Please accept our apologies for cross-posting this message.
On behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation Board Elections Committee, I am pleased to announce that self-nominations are now being accepted for the 2017 Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees Elections.[1]
The Board of Trustees (Board) is the decision-making body that is ultimately responsible for the long-term sustainability of the Wikimedia Foundation,[2] so we value wide input into its selection. More information about this role can be found at <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_elections/2017/Board_o…>. Please read the letter from the Board of Trustees calling for candidates here: <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_elections/2017/Board_o…>.
The candidacy submission phase will last from April 7 (00:00 UTC) to April 20 (23:59 UTC) and occurring on Meta-Wiki at <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_elections/2017/Board_o…>
We will also be accepting questions to ask the candidates from April 7 to April 20. You can submit your questions on Meta-Wiki at <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_elections/2017/Board_o…>
Once the questions submission period has ended on April 20, the Elections Committee will then collate the questions for the candidates to respond to beginning on April 21.
The goal of this process is to fill the three community-selected seats on the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees. The election results will be used by the Board itself to select its new members.
The full schedule for the Board elections is as follows. All dates are inclusive, that is, from the beginning of the first day (UTC) to the end of the last.
* April 7 (00:00 UTC) - April 20 (23:59 UTC): Board nominations
* April 7 - April 20: Board candidates questions submission period
* April 21 - April 30: Board candidates answer questions
* May 1 - May 14: Board voting period
* May 15-19: Board vote checking
* May 20: Board result announcement goal
In addition to the Board elections, we will also soon be holding elections for the following roles:
* Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC)
** There are five positions being filled. More information about this election can be found at <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_elections/2017/Funds_D…>.
* Funds Dissemination Committee Ombudsperson (Ombuds)
** One position is being filled. More information about this election can be found at <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_elections/2017/Funds_D…>.
Please note that this year the Board of Trustees elections will be held before the FDC and Ombuds elections. Candidates who are not elected to the Board are explicitly permitted and encouraged to submit themselves as candidates to the FDC or Ombuds positions after the results of the Board elections are announced.
More information on this year's elections can be found at <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_elections/2017>.
Please feel free to post a note about the election on your project's village pump. Any questions related to the election can be posted on the talk page on Meta, or sent to the election committee's mailing list, <board-elections AT wikimedia.org>.
On behalf of the Election Committee,
Katie Chan, Chair, Board Election Committee

Dear Wikimedians,
If you are a representative of an Affiliate, committee, or other
organized group in the Wikimedia Movement, please read this email
carefully and forward it to your peers.
I am writing you today in my role as the Movement Strategy Lead for
organized groups (Track A), and would like to encourage you to
actively participate in Wikimedia’s movement strategy process.
Together with you, we would like to find answers to the question “What
do we want to build or achieve together over the next 15 years?”
https://2030.wikimedia.org is the universal start page to the strategy
portal on Meta.
== This is our time! ==
This is the time many of us have been waiting for for years. I would
love to see each and every one of you make your voice heard and take
the chance to shape the future of our movement together.
== Timeline and process ==
The timeline up to Wikimania 2017 is organized in 3 consecutive
discussion cycles that are designed to explore, cluster and sharpen
the strategic direction and define 3-5 focus areas for the movement.
After Wikimania, we will discuss the movement structure, roles, as
well as 3-5-year goals and starting in 2018, organizations will
incorporate the findings into their strategic and annual planning.
Today, we are kicking off cycle 1 which is running until 15 April.
Organized groups will find all relevant information on the Meta page
for Track A.[1]
== Get involved! ==
Last week I reached out to all Chairs and EDs of Affiliates as well as
to active members of other organized groups and committees. While I
have heard from many, I would like to remind everyone to appoint a
discussion coordinator for your group that will act as the linker to
the strategy process.[2][3][4]
As an organized Group, you can invite all your stakeholders to join
your conversation: Board and staff members, members, external partners
and allies as well as members of your communities. Track A is closely
connected to Track B (Individual Contributors)[5], as many organized
Groups have close bonds with their local or thematic communities. We
encourage Track A and Track B coordinators to sync on their plans.
Your conversations can happen on- and offline. To host a conversation,
please read the discussion guide[6] that provides material to prepare,
conduct and document each conversation in each format. Before you and
your peers enter the conversation, please make yourself familiar with
the briefing[7] which provides a high-level overview of what we know
about the future and about our movement today.
I also look forward to seeing many of you at the Wikimedia Conference
in Berlin where we will discuss our future, generate thematic
statements, identify keywords and create thematic clusters of our
ideas. The rough outline of the program will be adjusted in the coming
days.[8]
Let’s make this happen! Please reach out to me with any question or
feedback you might have.
Sincerely,
Nicole

The Wikimedia movement is beginning a movement-wide strategy discussion, a process which will run throughout 2017. For 15 years, Wikimedians have worked together to build the largest free knowledge resource in human history. During this time, we've grown from a small group of editors to a diverse network of editors, developers, affiliates, readers, donors, and partners. Today, we are more than a group of websites. We are a movement rooted in values and a powerful vision: all knowledge for all people. As a movement, we have an opportunity to decide where we go from here.
This movement strategy discussion will focus on the future of our movement: where we want to go together, and what we want to achieve. We hope to design an inclusive process that makes space for everyone: editors, community leaders, affiliates, developers, readers, donors, technology platforms, institutional partners, and people we have yet to reach. There will be multiple ways to participate including on-wiki, in private spaces, and in-person meetings. You are warmly invited to join and make your voice heard.
The immediate goal is to have a strategic direction by Wikimania 2017 to help frame a discussion on how we work together toward that strategic direction.
Regular updates are being sent to the Wikimedia-l mailing list,[2] and posted on Meta-Wiki.[3] Beginning with this message, monthly reviews of these updates will be sent to this list as well.

Dear Wikimedians,
On June 18, 2016, Wikimedia Philippines held new elections for our Board of Trustees, serving a two-year term from July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2018. They are:
* Relly Bautista (previously served from 2010 to 2013)
* Romnick “Nick" Coros (new)
* Josh Lim
* Reyton “Boj" Ordonio (new)
* Vera Villocido (new)
At this point, please allow me to introduce our new Board members.
Nick Coros is from Tayabas City, Quezon, some 130 km south of Manila. He is a software developer for an independent international vendor, and has been a Wikipedian since 2008, where he is an administrator on the Tagalog Wikipedia. He was also a Top 50 finalist in the Philippine contest for Wiki Loves Monuments 2012.
Boj Ordonio is from Baguio City, but is currently resident in Metro Manila. A biologist by training, he is studying to earn his Master of Arts in Education at the University of the Philippines Diliman. He has been a Wikipedian since 2011 and has helped execute some of our events, and is also one of a handful of Spanish-speaking Wikipedians in the Philippines.
Vera Villocido is a teacher by profession, but she has over twenty years of experience in education, social development, local governance and consultancy, working with a number of international organizations and local NGOs. Resident in Alburquerque, Bohol, she is also one of our most prolific non-Manila based editors, having been a Wikipedian since 2006. From 2014 to 2016, she also served as the Internal Auditor of Wikimedia Philippines.
Leaving the WMPH Board of Trustees are Johnny Alegre (User:Buszmail), Jenna delos Reyes-Butac (User:Waiting for serendipity), Marco San Andres (User:Chitetskoy) and Paolo Barazon (User:Titopao). We thank them for their service to the organization, the community and the movement at large, and we wish them all the best in their future endeavors.
During the Board election, elections were also held for the vacant position of Internal Auditor. Joseph Ballesteros (User:Jojit fb), who previously served on the Board and was WMPH President from 2011 to 2012, won the election.
In addition to holding elections for the Board of Trustees, the new Board held elections for officer positions in the organization the following week. Officers serve for a term of one year. Our new slate of officers is as follows:
* Chair of the Board: John Paul Antes (User:Markadan)
* Vice Chair: Romnick Coros (User:Nickrds09)
* President: Josh Lim (User:Sky Harbor; re-elected)
* Vice President: Emmanuel Ramirez (User:Sunkissedguy; re-elected)
* Secretary: Reyton Ordonio (User:Bojaleatorio)
* Treasurer: Eugene Alvin Villar (User:Seav)
Please join me in welcoming the new WMPH officers and trustees. We all look forward to working with our colleagues in the Wikimedia movement. :)
(P.S.: Please make sure to CC the other e-mail addresses here, as I don’t think our new Board members are subscribed to this list.)
