Hello!
Today some of our participants encountered an upload problem with
seemingly normal JPEG photos. They all see the rather incomprehensible
error message "An error was encountered when opening the file for ZIP
checks", and the upload fails. I created a Phabricator ticket
https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T223446
but would also like to ask around if anyone has had this problem before.
I am quite sure that last year it was not there.
best,
Alexander
Hi! As Wiki Loves Earth is running smoothly in a couple of dozens countries
across the globe, I am pleased to announce some updates related to the

.
So far, Wiki Loves Earth participants from across the world have uploaded
almost 25,000 photos in two weeks.
2) The international Wiki Loves Earth site has a new blog post on how
to make Wiki Loves Earth photos more visible on Wikipedia. Check it out —
http://wikilovesearth.org/illustrating-wikipedia/.
3) The international team has started regularly picking some beautiful
photos specifically for Wiki Loves Earth Instagram account. Subscribe at

Hello!
As Wiki Loves Earth is just two days away, the organizing team is pleased
to share two interesting stories from Wiki Loves Earth:
* “Take only photos, leave only footprints”. It is highly important to
ensure that Wiki Loves Earth participant help nature while taking
photographs, not harm it. Australian WLE team shares their experience on
how to achieve it, and we put their experience in the international
perspective.
http://wikilovesearth.org/take-only-photos-leave-only-footprints/
* “Raising awareness of nature’s fragility”. Spanish WLE winners discuss
their motivation to participate in the contest, tell the stories behind
their winning pictures — and share reflections on the benefits of Wiki
Loves Earth for nature.
Thanks to the Spanish team for preparing this interview.

Hello,
as part of the structure data the depicts
statements(https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Depicts) got
released this week. They are not in the UploadWizad yet so this is not
relevant for the Upload-Campaign.
But I would like to make clear that (after the upload finished) the
protected area a photo was taken should not be shown with the depicts
statement. A protected area is a theoretical entity and can not be a
depict(of a photography). If there is an item for the real physical
object this can be added of course.
I the future there will be the "located in protected
area(P3018)"(https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property:P3018) statement for
this.
So I would recommend to answer with this if there are questions of
participants or maybe write this in the FAQ or other information about
your local contest.
If you think it would be good to have the protected area information in
the depicts statements for now and want to correct this after the P3018
statement got released, do this, but I think it would be better to add
this Information based on the categories then.
Feel free to say if you disagree.
Greetings
Leo (GPSLeo)
