Hi,
The regional African conference WikiIndaba ( https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiIndaba_conference_2017 ) is taking place in Accra, Ghana this weekend. Unfortunately, no member of Wiki Loves Earth international team is able to attend this event, but we would be very glad if someone would spread the word about the contest there! I am notably thinking of local organisers in several African countries who already organised Wiki Loves Earth: Ghana, Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia.
Why we want to spread the word about Wiki Loves Earth there? * Africa is very underrepresented at Wiki Loves Earth. Only four African countries to the date participated there, while there are many wonders of African nature that are yet to discover * Last year we had a Biospere Reserves nomination where images from the entire world could be uploaded to Commons ( https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Images_from_Wiki_Loves_Earth_Bi… ), and one of the winner was from Africa, https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:HIPPPOOOSS.jpg * This is a great opportunity for African communities to join a large international project, and organising a local Wiki Loves Earth contest is accessible to communities with any level of experience * We would really like local communities to know about it now (January) so that they have time to apply for a WMF grant if they want and organise everything without being in a hurry. * WikiIndaba is the place where most African communities will meet this year, so we want to reach those people who do not go to Wikimedia Conference in Berlin or to Wikimania as well.
If you want you can use slides I from Berlin ( https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WLE_WMCON_2016.pdf ) or a leaflet we did last year ( https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WLE-Leaflet.pdf )
To sum up: if you are going WikiIndaba, please spread the word about WLE there and help us boost African participation this year!
Best regards and have a nice conference for those going there, Mykola (NickK) for WLE international team
