Issue with loading specific page

Hi, I am not sure this is the right place for this issue, so please redirect me if there is a better forum. I have been loading the wikipedia page for India<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India>programmatically as part of testing my project. It was working fine, until recently. Now, most of the time (but not always), loading it gives me garbled content. Other pages on wikipedia work fine both programmatically and from the browser. This particular page also loads fine from my browser (safari on mac) - but when I load it programmatically (using curl or open-uri from mac-os x), the content is garbled. I am using a user agent, but don't know what changed. I tried closing the bar on top which appeared recently (Jimmy Wales message), but even without that bar, it seems to be garbled. Any suggestions? If Special:WhatLinksHere works for you you can do this using backlinks query. Find all pages that redirect to en:Main Page<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page> . http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=backlinks&bltitle=Main%… http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/API:Query_-_Lists#backlinks_.2F_bl Greetings, Simple question: is there any way to use the MediaWiki API to find a list of redirects *to* a given page? Redirects *to* a page via API?

Greetings, Simple question: is there any way to use the MediaWiki API to find a list of redirects *to* a given page? In other words, if I have A #REDIRECT [[B]], can I query B and find out that A is pointing to it? Special:WhatLinksHere does this in the normal UI, but I couldn't find a matching API query. Retrieving more results with OpenSearch

Hello all, I use opensearch to search Wikimedia Commons for images for a search tool I have created. The query is as follows: http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/api.php?action=opensearch&&format=xml&namesp… However, I find that the number of "Item" elements returned by this query is often either 9, 10 or 11. So far it seems that the number is more or less within this range. Is there some sort of limit on the number of results that are fetched? How could I get more results? Thanks in advance, Leena

best practice for rate limits for accessing the English Wikipedia with the API

Hi everyone, I plan to be making a fair number of read access calls to the Wikipedia API over the next several months and would like to know what the best practices for efficient, fast access that doesn't hog resources. I've found that having a single thread that makes a call and waits for a response before making the next call has been extremely reliable (much more so than basically any other web API I've used before). What I'd like to do make my application multithreaded for reading from the Wikipedia and make simultaneous calls to the Wikipedia (since the speed of my application is limited by the rate at which I can read from the Wikipedia.) I have the following questions: 1) What limits should I observe in terms of number of calls I make per second and how many calls I should have going simultaneously? 2) How would I know when I'm accessing the API too quickly or too often? I read at http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/API:Errors_and_warnings that there is ratelimited error message, but so far, I've not seen that error myself. If I don't get a ratelimited error, does that mean I'm doing ok with respect to being a good API citizen. 3) Even if I am requiring read access, should I identify myself explicitly to the API by logging in for the read access -- so that I can be contacted should there be a problem? 4) Does it make sense to try to obtain bot privileges (even for read only access)? My understanding is that bots get access to larger payload in some API calls. Note: since I'm looking at recent changes to the Wikipedia, downloading a data dump of the Wikipeida to work on doesn't help me. Thanks, -Raymond Yee (User:RaymondYee)

Fetching external links

Hi, I know how to retrieve a list of all external links from a wiki-page. However, I'm looking for a way to retrieve all external links which are listed under "External Links". For instance, I would like to fetch all "External Links" links from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PHP - which would be a list of 6 items ("Official website", "PHP", "Open Directory Project", ...)
