wikipedia commons - how do you get the license of a image?

So, how do you get the license of a image? Seems there is no straightforward way. For example, http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Turner,_J._M._W._-_The_Fighting_T%C3… in the public domain. Thanks, Zhao

question about api-login

Hi, i want to login to my mediawiki site from an external java class. I already have successfully sent the first request and received the token. After that i have sent the second request with a generated cookie. I received the success message as result. But im still not loged in. I tryed to send the three cookies with username, id and token after the success message as a third request, but it didnt work. I think there is something wrong with my third request, could you please describe me how i have to send these three cookies after receiving the success message. Question about the JSON format

Hi all, First, thank you for viewing my post. I'm working on product to get information from wiki and show them in office application. And when I am working with MediaWiki APIs, I found a problem. I use C# to build my application and I get the query result from MediaWiki by Json format. And my problem is that Some APIs will return a json object which cannot be deserialized to a C# object. For example, when I try to get the image list of Seattle<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seattle>,(the request url is this<http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&prop=images&imlimit=6&titles…>) The result will be: [image: JSON%20result.jpg] Please check the red box in the picture above. As we know that JSON is a key/value based format and in the red box, this key is dynamically generated according to the page id. in this way, this json is unable to be deserialized to a C# object since I have to map a C# property to a const key/ID in code. I just wonder why MediaWiki do this? if MediaWiki APIs wants to support to show multipage in query result, probably it should use Array to show all page info? -- Thanks, Justin Zhang

Fetching external links from articles

Hi, How can I fetch links which are shown in the external links section of every article. It's possible to fetch all external links inside a given page using this query: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=parse&page=Norway&prop=externallin… But I want to fetch links in External Links section only. What query should I use ? -- "A belief may be larger than a fact." Vannevar Bush

installing action modules

My API contains only 3 modules: action - What action you would like to perform One value: login, logout, help Default: help How can I install the other modules (specifically the query module)? I have MediaWiki 1.13.1 - should I upgrade it to 1.17? Or is it possible to upgrade the API only?

description page for math images

Hi I have been trying to find the description page for latex math images. Here is an example of such an image: http://upload.wikimedia.org/math/f/6/a/f6ac8632c237011599f300e62d916859.png obtained from the page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acid However I am unable to find the description page for such images. I tried http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=parse&format=xml&page=File:f6ac863… and that resulted in an xml with error code="missingtitle" info="The page you specified doesn't exist" I have also tried http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:F6ac8632c237011599f300e62d916859.png Which says the file does not exist. I am trying to get the licensing information for images, and then try to download them. Any suggestions or pointers are welcome. Thanks Priyank

Get number of views

Hi, I'm looking for a way to get an indicator for how relevant a given Wiki-Page is. Something like "number of views". I found the "clicktracking" action but I'm not sure if this would really be useful. Thanks Christian

Letting other websites use wiki content

I've been refered to this list after asking this question on the Mediawiki-l list. Suppose we have a wiki, and we want other websites (blogs and any other kinds of sites) to use our wiki content. For example say the wiki has different types of random facts about countries. When someone visits a blog, they can see a box where that random fact is presented, and that data is drawn from the wiki. Whats the best way to do this? RSS? Is this kind of thing possible using Mediawiki API? thanks Eric
