For a possible presentation at next summer's International Association of
Music Libraries conference in Antwerp (July 13-18), we're seeking someone
who is involved with libraries and has a connection to Wikimedia
Deutschland or other national chapter of Wikimedia.

On a visit to ta friend's house, I saw that he has this new coffee-table
book "The Library: A World History." It has beautiful photographs
(interior and exterior shots) from all over the world of libraries from
Roman times to the present (including plenty in Asia that were totally
unfamiliar to me).
Immediately I thought that Wikipedia's photograph hunts (e.g. "Wiki Loves
Monuments") could be combined with Wikipedia Loves Libraries to create a
fabulous record of libraries in communities the world over, large and small.
Perhaps next year?

Hi all -
Despite my best efforts to stay on top of everything at once, I've been
continually behind on what's up with wikipedia in the classroom.
I am working with a faculty member who is doing a course on women and
electronic music. There are quite a few articles that either don't exist in
this area or could use some editing.
I would love to see some case studies or examples from folks who have done
assignments based around these kinds of articles. We're definitely thinking
of something with a semester-long focus for this course, so I'm excited,
but would love to get some advice/ hear about success stories.
Thanks!

California, I encourage you to attend -- or participate remotely by working
on related articles!

10/26 & 11/23

Hi all,
The UC Riverside libraries are holding three edit-a-thons as part of
Wikipedia Loves Libraries, on Oct. 12, Oct. 26, and Nov. 23 (all are
Saturdays).
Details are here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Riverside/WLL/2013
The edit-a-thons will focus on the very cool special collections at the
Riverside libraries, including the Eaton Collection of Science Fiction and
Fantasy: http://eaton.ucr.edu/ -- "the largest publicly-accessible
collection of science fiction, fantasy, horror and utopian literature in
the world."
Other special collections that editors might want to use include the Water
Resources Archive (http://library.ucr.edu/wrca/), and a collection on the
Tuskegee Airmen archive (http://library.ucr.edu/tuskegee/). And of course
all of the other UCR library resources will be available as well.
This is a fantastic opportunity to take advantage of a great library and
librarians who are eager to share their collections! If you can attend in
person please do, or if not consider participating remotely -- feel free to
make reference requests on the talk page :) And please encourage your
friends in southern California to attend.

Apologies for any cross-posting!
Further to Dorothy's message last week about more standardised GLAMwiki resources, I have uploaded to Google Drive a publicly accessible and editable version of the information booklet that she mentioned (https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-54az_yPpKyRnlCQWV6MEFGVXc/edit?usp=sharing). I am very much hoping that other GLAMWikimedians will contribute and make the revisions necessary to turn this booklet into a resource useful not only for librarians but also curators, archivists, and other GLAM staff and volunteers.
Cheers,
Ally

Hi Phoebe -
These are very useful, thanks!
In my region, public librarians admit to being "scared" of Wikipedia and
don't know much about it or how to use it. So...
*...here's a slide deck developed for a branch-wide presentation as an
intro to Wikipedia:
http://www.slideshare.net/bdcousineaul/10-things-you-need-to-know-about-wik…
* ... and here's an adaptation of a manual originally developed by Susanna
Giaccai (still in my sandbox - feel free to improve!):

As we enter Wikipedia Loves Libraries season (hooray!) I thought I'd share
some material I'm working on ... it started as a handout for librarians but
changed to being ideas for librarians and participants at library
edit-a-thons. It is a list of editing ideas that (I think) are suited to
taking advantage of library resources.

I have been reluctant to share this because "it's not finished"... but that
is very un-wiki of me :) But, it's not finished -- especially the wiki
page. So, please help me edit, clean-up, redesign, and in general let me
know if you think this is a good idea or not. (And I will keep working on
this over the next few weeks).
cheers,
Phoebe

Hello, all--
I'm helping put together a series of Edit-a-thons at MA libraries, archives, and museums for Open Access/Wikipedia Loves Libraries Week, and would love your help! Together with my co-organizer Amanda Strauss (Schlesinger Library at Radcliffe), we are encouraging MA GLAMs to join forces for Open Access to Mass History:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Loves_Libraries/Open_Acces…
We are generally enthusiastic, but inexperienced. This is our first year in trying to organize a series like this, and we would love to have at least one knowledgeable Wikipedia editor at each site. (As we contacted potential hosts, each and every one first asked about how to connect with a Wikipedia editor, so we think there are a lot of people eager to learn the ropes.) So if there are any folks on this list that would like to volunteer to be the local Wikipedia expert/tutorial giver, please let me know.
We have our list of confirmed sites up on the page above, and already have a few more in the works, so hopefully there is a time and date that works for everyone interested.
Also, please feel free to share this widely, and let me know if you have any suggestions on where else to publicize. And feel free to let us know if we are doing anything wrong!
Thanks,
Amanda (R.)
