Hi Guys,
Just had a discussion with my Friend Eric Latiff of Capital fm, with whom
Asaf and I met last week- His message via SMS is
"*I liked the meeting we had with Asaf, I think wikimedia is a very Good
Project- Count me in"*
he is therefore requesting a meeting with members more so Abbas, so that we
can discuss how the media will be involved in our projects- Mind you he
wants to Join WMF and will also be our link to all major media houses.
Let me know your take on this
Regards Isaac

Hi all,
The 12th annual Strathmore ICT Conference is on next week (2 - 3 September): http://www.strathmore.edu/aboutus.php?id=186
When Asaf was here, he got to speak to the organizers and we are welcome to give a talk at the conference. In line with this year's theme for the conference: 'ICT for Development: People, Policy and Practice ' Asaf's suggestion:
" I would suggest using one of my talks as a basis, and expanding the
section on offline work at the expense of general Wikipedia culture
(NPOV, reliability, etc.). I.e. make this a presentation about
Wikimedia Kenya's offline project rather than about Wikipedia."
I can look into getting complementary tickets for the conference for a couple of guys who'll be Wikimedia's presence here.
cheers,
Alex
Alex,
I shall be available to attend the conference personally and as a
representative of WMKE and unofficially for the WMF.Not unless something
crops up.
However, I have a few Q's;
Are we expected to make the presentation on the 2nd September or 3rd
September?
Did anyone get the slides that Asaf used during his presentations here in
Kenya? I would like to couple them up with the Ones we used in Wikipedia For
Schools.
I need to change the dates, themes on the slides to go in line with the
theme of the Conference - "ICT for development" among other details.
Cheers
Steve

think we need it.

Hi all,
So I've blogged about this on Mozilla Kenya's site though it's temporarily down due to maintenance; spammers :( It should be back up by tomorrow.
Anyways, as Steve mentioned, 10th September was suggested as a meetup date for local Mozilla and Wikimedia contributors.
So if everyone's cool with this, I'll move to book Strathmore as our venue.
Cheers,
Alex

Such connections have proven useful, and perhaps next time we could merge with Google in arranging such outreach activities -- since our footprint is generally the same.

Arranging a multi-event visit from the Foundation is, IMO, a lot of work, volunteerwise. It requires rigorous planning and regular contact with the various institutions. 3. We did get a lecturer in Mombasa who "had changed her view regarding Wikipedia" after listening to Asaf's visit. Asaf also received a note from a student who was inspired by what we were doing, and wanted to join us.4. We had a larger audience in Mombasa than in Nairobi -- probably proving that it's easier to get an audience in institutions outside Nairobi, and the impact is therefore larger.

Hi folks,
Asaf and I went to Mombasa on Thursday 18/08/2011. He returned on the same day while I stayed for the weekend.

Hello, everyone.
You may remember I was mentioning in my talks last week that we need help
getting our software changes for mobile users widely tested across devices
and geographies.
Here's fresh information on that, from the Wikimedia Blog:

Hi Nice People,
I attended a mozilla meet-up yesterday the 20th Aug 2011 in Nairobi and we
discussed an issue that is very important to us.
While Alex was at Wikimania 2011 at Haifa, Israel,he had talks with Mozilla
guys plus the Wikimedia counterparts and they were of the opinion
that we carry out a nationwide awareness campaign here in Kenya in most of,
if not all colleges and campuses.
At our meeting we decided not to lay down major plans before we get into
consultation with you, WMKE.However, we unanimously agreed that the outreach
shall be
carried out in January, and considering the magnitude and scope of the Road
trip Pre visits shall be conducted in October-pre visits still to be
confirmed.
Therefore, after much consultations We decided to have a (WMKE N MOZILLA
KENYA) combined meet-up in Nairobi on the 10th
September 2011 to have an elaborate plan up and running.
A site dedicated for this shall be set up as part of the planning and I will
definately forward the link to you guys.
Mozilla is an Open Source movement and so do we at WMF.
Cheers,
Steve
