Hello,
I am having some trouble trying to find a way to change the thumbnail display after I upload a video. It seems that after I upload, there is no way to further manipulate the video file. I have a series of videos that I would like to upload, but I must ensure that I will have some control as to what the thumbnail will look like.
My assumption is that WikiMedia auto-selects a point in the video to choose a thumbnail?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,
I see that WikiMedia takes the still image from the halfway point of the video. For example, my video is 1.30 in length and the still image was selected at the 45 second point.

There was a feature request to be able to set the default thumbnail on the File page. I don't think that feature ever made it into the code base. But if we can find the bug and associate it with the Timed media handler extension I will try and include it with the TMH deployment efforts.

Hi Matthew,
"...I must ensure that I will have some control as to what the thumbnail
will look like.
It's not much, but as a fellow stickler for thumbnail quality (inc. animated gifs) I sometimes run a manual ffmpeg/avconv command on a local machine then overwrite the thumbnail on the server via SSH.
It's also neat to build wiki pages akin to the following: http://openmeetings.org/wiki/OMwiki:Finding_aid
Sincerely, George
The thumbnail image change cannot be done directly on the file page, but it can be done in any particular place the file is included, such as a Wikipedia page, by using the 'thumbtime' parameter.
Please see an example here:

The thumbnail may be a real problem in case of using the gallery function in an article. There is no thumbtime parameter. So many previews (see http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Introduction_to_the_RepRap_Self_Repli... or http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sympetrum_sanguineum_kurz.ogv) will be not usable within a gallery.
