To All at Wikimedia/Wikepedia, I know that Mike was very involved in Wikipedia and I'm doing my best to notify all the lists that he had threaded to of his passing.
On Tuesday, February 26, 2008, Mike was walking and had a heart attack and passed away. To all of those who knew him online, I wanted to pass this information on.
Mike loved the online communities and I hope that those of you who corresponded with him will pass this information on to others.
Thank you,
Ray Irwin (Mike's Twin Brother.)
Dear Ray and all of Mike's family, I'm very sorry to hear this news - I've long had a correspondence with Mike about Wikiversity, about which Mike felt passionately. He consistently tried to push the project forward, and to make suggestions as to how it could realise his ambition to make education and knowledge freely available to everyone, and to bring a community of people together toward that end. He leaves a very ambitious project as a legacy on Wikiversity, which I hope someone will develop along the lines he envisaged. Mike's death is a great loss to us.
I wish you strength and solidarity at this difficult time,
Cormac Lawler (User "Cormaggio" on Wikiversity and other Wikimedia projects)
