Supporting four community members for their participation at WikiConference India 2016

Dear friends, WikiConference India 2016 is just around the corner and all of you who are participating will already be getting ready to come to Landran. Four community members (Vishwanath Badikana from Kannada and Tulu Wikipedia, Gopala Krishna from Kannada Wikipedia, Pankajmala Sarangi from Odia Wikisource and Muralimohan Kodihalli from Telugu Wikipedia) had reached out to us requesting to support them for their travel and stay for WCI '16. These applicants are from our focus language areas. We discussed about this internally and decided to support them based on their contribution to their respective language Wikimedia projects and the communities. This is not the wiki way of doing things and we apologise for taking this decision. But these requests came late and we did not have a clear plan well in advance to support community members to travel and participate in WCI. Two of the community members, Pankajmala and Muralimohan, have managed to have discussion in their respective language Wikipedias and have got support from their fellow community members, we appreciate. We wish we can support more Wikimedians from all the other language communities. But because of the time and budget constraint, we are being able to support only these four Wikimedians. If any of you have any issue with this please do let us know. We apologise for not being able announce the possibility of we supporting the community well in advance. Best! CIS-A2K Newsletter - May-June 2016

Dear friends, We are happy to share the consolidated newsletter for May and June. Apologies for missing out the former and for this long newsletter. Train-the-trainer and Mediawiki training for Indian language Wikimedians After two iterations of the Train the Trainer in 2013 (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/CIS-A2K/Events/Train_the_Trainer_Program/20…) and 2015 (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/CIS-A2K/Events/Train_the_Trainer_Program/20…) , CIS-A2K organised the third programme during June 15-17 at Bengaluru. The Mediawiki training was designed to help groom technical leadership skills of the technical contributors of the communities. A total of 45 participants, that were selected by a collaborative consultation with the community, took part in these events. The trainers for both the events consisted of subject experts from the Wikimedia community, the free knowledge movement, the free and open source software community and CIS-A2K programme staff. Wiki Loves Butterfly Global Invitation

Dear Wikimedians, This gives me a great pleasure to announce the second phase of *Wiki Loves Butterfly (WLB)* project. On 28th July, the WLB team is going to start its second phase of pictorial documentation (Field work) of the available seasonal species and variety of butterflies along with their behavioral pattern in Jayanti, Alipurduar, North Bengal.India. Currently, the team is developing articles(in Bengali Language) about the butterflies found in the first phase. There are total 25 articles in Bengali developed in 3 months time where three of the users are new. Total number of images contributed in commons is 377 till date. Hereby the WLB team is requesting all wikimedians to visit the project here and contribute as per the choice. Your honest feedback and suggestion is also welcome. If anybody wants to start a similar project in his or her native language, the WLB team is willing to support in every possible aspect.
