As much as I would love to see a conference held in Portland, I don't see that happening. There are simply not enough people to make a project like that come to fruition, and I can't take on the responsibility of managing something that large.

I would never ask anyone to host a conference but if someone speaks up and wants to host it then I would support them. I know of no one who right now is completely eager to host the next conference.
If no one else volunteers, then because a conference has been hosted annually for the past 4-5 years in New York, then I might expect that New York would do something again next year.

Hello Fellow Wikimedians,
Although WikiConference USA is right behind us, it is time to start looking towards who will host the conference next year. Hosting the conference in Boston is one such possibility, but I was wondering if any other groups would be interested, since it would be nice to move the conference out of the Northeast and possibly have it in other regions of the United States in the coming years.
I would love to hear what everyone else thinks about this though, especially since it would be nice to have everyone on the same page.
