Hey NC Wiki friends!
Our first meeting of 2024 will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 9, at 7pm.
At our last meeting, we talked about Wikipedia Day and whether we might want to pull together some kind of gathering/event to celebrate it sometime in January. We'll discuss when we meet in a few weeks.
In the meantime, wishing you all safe, happy, restful holidays.
Emily
Hi everybody,
As we discussed on our last call, we’re thinking of organizing a Wikipedia Day event in Jan or Feb 2024 to commemorate Wikipedia’s founding on January 15, 2001. I’ve set up a meetup page to organize that [1] and added it to the consolidated list of NC events I’ve been working on [2]. Please feel free to edit either page!
(Big thanks to Frank, whose Wiknic page [3] I stole the layout from!)
I think the two main things we need to decide are the date and location. I think a weekend event would be the easiest for people to attend. The last weekend of January (Jan 27-28) would work particularly well for me, as I might be a bit busy on the weekends before and after then (Jan 20-21 and Feb 3-4). I don’t think I’ll be able to attend anything from Feb 10 onwards, but my travel plans then are still fluid, so let’s see.
Anywhere in the Research Triangle would work well for me, but I’d be willing to drive as far as Winston-Salem or Zebulon if that works better for all of y’all. I like the idea of doing this in a public library so that we don’t need to worry about the weather and we might get some foot traffic wandering in.
Happy Holidays!
Cheers, Gaurav

Happy new year NC Wikipedian friends!
Just a reminder that we'll meet next *Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 7pm*. (Zoom link to come.)
Gaurav, thanks so much for setting up a meetup page for our potential Wikipedia Day event. That will be the primary agenda item on our agenda on Tuesday.
Hope to see some of you then!

Hey NC Wikipedian friends!
At our meeting last night we discussed possible dates for hosting some sort of Wikipedia Day event. Thanks to Morgan, who contacted the *Chapel Hill Public Library*, we are a GO for holding our event there on *Feb. 4, 11am to 1pm*.
They sent us this PDF with info about holding events there: *https://chapelhillpubliclibrary.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Preparing-for... https://chapelhillpubliclibrary.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Preparing-for-your-event.pdf*
I am AGAIN without power, as part of some big outage in Durham, and don't have the capacity to think through logistics right now, but wanted to send that date, time, and location tonight so anyone who's interested can get it on their calendars.
We're planning to keep this light and lean -- just a group of Wikipedians in a room, hanging out and willing to talk about Wikimedia and the user group, and/or willing to demonstrate edits to anyone dropping in who's curious.
If you're interested in attending and/or helping to plan, please send a note either on- or off-list. (Folks who were there last night, I'm assuming you're still on board.) I'll send a follow-up about plans to everyone who expresses interest -- that way we can keep the general list from getting too chattery.
Looking forward to it!
Emily
