Hi everybody,

As we discussed on our last call, we’re thinking of organizing a Wikipedia Day event in Jan or Feb 2024 to commemorate Wikipedia’s founding on January 15, 2001. I’ve set up a meetup page to organize that [1] and added it to the consolidated list of NC events I’ve been working on [2]. Please feel free to edit either page!

(Big thanks to Frank, whose Wiknic page [3] I stole the layout from!)

I think the two main things we need to decide are the date and location. I think a weekend event would be the easiest for people to attend. The last weekend of January (Jan 27-28) would work particularly well for me, as I might be a bit busy on the weekends before and after then (Jan 20-21 and Feb 3-4). I don’t think I’ll be able to attend anything from Feb 10 onwards, but my travel plans then are still fluid, so let’s see.

Anywhere in the Research Triangle would work well for me, but I’d be willing to drive as far as Winston-Salem or Zebulon if that works better for all of y’all. I like the idea of doing this in a public library so that we don’t need to worry about the weather and we might get some foot traffic wandering in.

Happy Holidays!

Cheers,
Gaurav
