Hey NC Wikipedians!
Last night's meeting was a fun one -- we got to connect remotely to a
biergarden hangout with members of the NYC chapter.
Mark your calendars: Our next meeting will take place on *Thursday, August
25, at 7pm.* This will also be a fun one: We'll use it as a working session
to review the photos that were submitted during WikiPixNC and take care of
some other event follow-ups (including sending user page messages to photo
submitters).
If you love editing with groups of people, this one's for you!
Zoom link to come.

Dear NC Wiki friends,
First, this is your reminder that we'll meet this Thursday at 7pm at this
Zoom link: https://unc.zoom.us/j/91409562683
Before then, in the next few days, I'm supposed to cast a vote on behalf of
our user group for the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees, which is
bringing on two new members.
You can read about the *2022 Board of Trustees candidates
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Wikimedia_Foundation_ele…>
*here. The candidates have also responded to a set of questions here
<https://forum.movement-strategy.org/t/affiliate-questions-selected-for-the-…>.
Please send me any input, endorsements, or concerns about any of the
candidates *by Wednesday (6/14) at 7pm*. (On- or off-list, whichever your
preference) My deadline for casting a vote is Thursday, 6/15, at 8pm. (So I
will be voting before our Thursday meeting.) The election uses a
ranked-choice system called single transferable vote
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_elections/Single_Trans…>.
Affiliate representatives (that's me, voting on behalf of our user group)
will vote to select 6 of the 12 candidates to continue on to the Board of
Trustees Community Voting period, during which we'll each have an
opportunity to vote as individuals. The community voting period will take
place from Aug. 15 to 19.
For more information, please visit the *2022 Board of Trustees page on

Thanks,
Emily
Hey NC Wikipedia friends!
We're ten days into the photo campaign and it seems like it's going well!
There are 200 photos uploaded, from all over the state, and there are a lot
of great ones! You can see them all here:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Uploaded_via_Campaign:WikiPixNC
There's a local photography group meeting tonight and I think they're going
to mention the campaign at their meeting. I also submitted PSAs to four
college radio stations (WNCU, WXYC, WXDU, and WKNC) and sent a message to
the historic sites directors for the eastern and western parts of the
state. But honestly, I think the banner is doing a lot of work, so thanks
again to Richard for making that happen!
I'm inclined to schedule our next meeting as a wrap-up, sometime after June
22 when the campaign ends, unless anyone thinks we should meet before then.
OR unless anyone is feeling motivated to work on a grant for a Wikimania
meet-up... but I just realized those grant applications
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2022/Scholarships> are due on
Friday. If anyone wants to discuss, email is probably the best way to go...
and soon!
Cheers,
Emily
