Hey NC Wikipedians! Just a reminder that we'll meet this *Thursday (June 1)
at 7pm*. Zoom link: https://unc.zoom.us/j/95436613954
Hope to see you then!
Emily
Hey NC Wikipedians! I hope you're all doing well and that you'll forgive my
radio silence. I've been contending with some health issues that have been
worse than usual of late. But we're long overdue for a meeting. *Would
Thursday, June 1, at 7pm work for those who are inclined to attend?* Please
let me know, either on or off list.
I also wanted to let you all know about a workshop this Thursday that may
be of interest. I heard about Wiki Workshop <https://wikiworkshop.org/2023/>
from a professor at UNC's School of Information and Library Science, who
studies Wikipedia. From her email:
"Wiki Workshop is a forum for bringing together researchers exploring all
aspects of the Wikimedia projects. It's a place where we create bridges
between the research communities and many other communities that make the
Wikimedia projects a reality: volunteer editors, developers, academics,
affiliate organizations and user-groups, policy advocates, and beyond."
This is a workshop by and for people who do research about the Wikimedia
projects -- rather than one by and for the editing communities. But I'm
sure there is considerable overlap!
Registration is free: (https://pretix.eu/wikimedia/wikiworkshop2023/)
Even if you don't attend, you can view some of the abstracts, which cover
topics such as:
- the effects of page protection on Wikipedia
- how editors construct knowledge on mental health
- inclusion of Intersex and Trans-Non-Binary Gender Identities in the
editor community
- effects of the Russo-Ukrainian War on the editor activity of the
Ukrainian, Russian, and English Wikipedias
If anyone attends, I'd love to hear about it!
Emily
Thought this might be of interest to some of y’all!
Cheers,
Gaurav
