I am considering scheduling a DC meetup for October 9, i.e., five Saturdays from now. Will this be fine, and what are your ideas?
Seems to work, I believe. I believe what we determined at Meetup 10 was "not Unos", and that suburban locations were okay as long as they had easy Metro access (thus, say, Pentagon City or Downtown Silver Spring would work).
Additionally, I would prefer somewhere where we can order off the regular menu, vs. having to set up a big catering deal. I've rarely found the "catered" ones to be all that exciting food-wise. Also, if this is going to be a cash-only affair, all I ask is that this be communicated early so I don't have to make an "emergency" ATM run.

How about a project page where we can poll people on dates? Should be at Wikipedia:Meetup/DC 12 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Meetup/DC_12&action=... ).

Polling on dates is fine. Polling on locations has never worked well. Someone just be bold and announce a place :)

Aye. Completely agreed on this. Just don't pick a place that sucks. ;-)

Most people try to avoid the city during the rallies/protests/whatever else. The Metro is usually a mess (well, more so than usual) and traffic can be congested. Just something to consider.
MZMcBride
Agreeing with MZM here. Any sort of major event in DC makes the Metro hell in a sardine can.

How about Ballston?
Lots of restaurants near the Metro stop, many more in Ballston Commons.
Served by Metro rail and bus and easily accessable from I-66, I-395 and VA Route 50..
What say ye?
Best,

That is a LONG trip for anyone on the Maryland side. If you want a Va. location, Rosslyn is OK, Pentagon City/Crystal City is OK, but Ballston is a major trip.

I'm not sure why we're choosing between Virginia and Maryland if it results in long trips for some potential attendees. I think the fairest would be to split the difference between Virginia and Maryland and hold it in DC proper.

I agree. Unless it's in DC, or maybe 1 or 2 metro stops outside, it's going to hurt attendance.

I also agree with a DC location, and with the idea that outside the district will hurt attendance.
Dupont Circle sounds like a good idea, as the red line (e.g. union station) has been agreeable in the past.

Dupont Circle is easy enough to get to. The only question is, does anyone know of places there that are both reasonably priced and big enough? I remember the time we went to Skewers, and that was pretty pricey.
I'll spend a Saturday or Sunday scouring the neighborhood. Sorry for the top post.

What about Bertucci's in Foggy Bottom? They were large, Metro-accessible, reasonably priced, and handled us quite well. I'd love to go back there, since the experience was stellar.

Ryan,
It would be very helpful if you could handle arrangements.
I made arrangements there with the manager. Don't remember the name but just ask to speak with the manager.
