Subject: local organization seeks Mediawiki consultant...
To: info(a)wikimediadc.org
Hey guys,
I gave a Wikipedia presentation to some people at the American College of
Cardiology a few days ago. This organization is the leading United
States-based society for managing professional resources for cardiologists.
I wish that they were keen to develop articles related to cardiology since
their organization's mission is to supply information on this topic, but
the idea is new to them and I suspect they may want to wait a while.
They are interested in having more discussions about the Mediawiki platform
and how they and other DC-based medical societies can use this software
internally. They would like to meet a Mediawiki consultant and developer.
Right now, they want a one-hour presentation for a monthly series which
they organize.
Does Wikimedia DC have any relationships with local Mediawiki professionals?
yours,

Hello everyone,
As Wikimedia DC expands its portfolio of programs and activities in the
coming months, we're looking to add some new volunteers to our advisory
committees. The committees advise and assist our Board with various
matters in a particular area of our activity.
We're currently looking to add members to four different committees:
(1) The Fundraising Committee, which helps the Board prepare grant
applications and solicit funds for our chapter.
(2) The Governance Committee, which drafts legal documents and policies for
the Board.
(3) The Grants Committee, which reviews and evaluates applications
submitted to our small grants program.
(4) The Technology Committee, which helps to maintain our technical
infrastructure.
More details about the individual committees, including lists of their
current membership, can be found on our website at
http://wikimediadc.org/wiki/Committees.
If anyone is interested in being part of a committee, please send me a note
at secretary(a)wikimediadc.org; we would like to appoint new members at our
meeting on August 18, so please submit your name before then if possible.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to
contact myself or one of our other Board members.
Cheers,
Kirill
PS. Please feel free to forward this to anyone not on the list who you
think may be interested.

The Walters Art Museum is hosting a hackathon this upcoming weekend, July
27-29, in Baltimore. I think you would be welcome, even if you aren't
quite as technical, but can help with things like documentation.
The Walters has provided ~20,000 images to Wikimedia Commons and sure there
could be some hack or gadget that makes use of them. :)

I want you to know how much I am grateful to all you for the chance to
experience such a community! After my body really recovers I hope to
send a few reflections. Being a true introvert, I was able to
accomplish some key goals I had set for myself (in spite of the
sometimes uncooperative mobile scooter).
Hope you are also taking time to laugh & relax, as well as wind things
up. Wish I could be there ...

I didn't do any of the volunteering I meant to, but I did put together a
nice little entry as part of the Wikimania page.
Also a grabbed a few extra Hong Kong tourism bags from empty back rows
where I was sitting at closing session and will bring next time I show
at something for anyone who missed out.
Got some good ideas/info for outreach/training but have personal project
trying to focus on for at least another month; so hopefully in the fall.

Hello,
As today is Saturday, our office building, 1875 K Street, is locked
from the outside today. To gain access, call the office at (202)
729-8119 and someone (likely Lisa) will let you in.
On most other days, to get to the office you can simply walk through
the door and ask the front desk for Wikimedia DC.
