To: San Francisco Bay Area Wikimedians <wikimedia-sf(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hello,
I work for OCLC, a non profit that works with libraries to make
library collections and services more accessible. This summer, we will
be hosting a Wikipedian in Residence. Although the most important
qualification for a candidate is being an established Wikipedian and
someone who can communicate with others about their passion for
Wikipedia, a candidate who is also an early career archivist or
librarian would be ideal! Please check out the position description
and let me know if you have any questions! Please feel free to
forward.

Reminder to get your Wikimania program submissions in soon! I am aware of
a lot of cool wiki-related stuff that DC area people are doing. We want to
hear about it at Wikimania. :)

We seek submissions for presentations, workshops, panels, and other types
of sessions.
Topics may include anything related to Wikipedia, MediaWiki & tech (e.g.
mobile), Wikisource, Wikimedia Commons and other sister projects,
OpenStreetMap, third-party wikis (e.g. WikiHow), wikis in business,
government, etc., civic & local wikis, GLAM-wiki and other cultural
outreach initiatives, education outreach, research into wikis and
collaboration, and more. These topics are just suggestions.

Hello everyone,
This is just a reminder that we'll be hosting DC Meetup #28 at Capitol City
Brewery at 7 PM on Saturday, March 10. This is going to be our first
purely social event in several months, so it's a great opportunity to meet
other local Wikimedians and chat about some of the events and activities
that will be taking place in our region as we prepare for Wikimania in
July.
If you're planning to attend -- or even just considering it -- please RSVP
at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/DC_28 if you haven't
already done so.
In addition to discussing local events and activities, we also hope to
collect some suggestions regarding the proposed new Chapters Council (
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Chapters_Council). If you have any thoughts
on the matter, we'd love to hear them at the meetup; you can also send us
your comments by email if you're unable to make it.
Cheers,
Kirill

Hello everyone! I have two events to announce that will take place March 30
/*She Blinded Me With Science*/*- A celebration of Smithsonian women
Hosted by the Smithsonian Institution Archives
**March 30 - 1 to 5 pm
*This event, held at the Smithsonian Institution Archives is an
edit-a-thon devoted to improving content about women in science related
to the Smithsonian. Attendees will have a chance to work with
Smithsonian archivists and it'll be a good old time.
*Wikimedia DC Happy Hour*
5:30pm-???
At Hill Country BBQ in Penn Quarter
I hope you don't mind me being bold and calling this a Wikimedia DC
Happy Hour, but, well, it sounds so much better. ;)
Hope you can join us! Please forward to interested parties and bring a
friend!

(It's a Friday afternoon because the archives aren't open on Saturdays)

I want to let everyone know that I am resigning as President of Wikimedia
DC, effective at the end of March.
I will be spending a year in Germany and prefer someone local take on the
role of President of the chapter. I am willing to remain on the Board of
Directors in a non-officer role and continue on the Wikimania 2012
organizing team. (I'll be back in June to help out)
Huge thanks to Nicholas, James, Kirill, Tiffany, Kristin, and Kevin for
their excellent leadership and sure they will take the chapter to the next
level, with increased capacity to do outreach and support volunteers.
And thank you to all the members who have supported and been involved with
the chapter and Wikimedia outreach in the DC region!
Cheers,
Katie
PS - hope to see folks at our next meetup on March 10:

There lacks a regional ambassador for our region (excluding DC proper). Is
anyone interested or can recommend someone? How might the chapter fill
this role?
