Opinions Needed: Why Do People Contribute to Wikipedia?

Dear Wikipedia contributors, Your valuable opinions are needed regarding users' motivations to contribute to Wikipedia. This topic is currently investigated by Audrey Abeyta, an undergraduate student at the University of California, Santa Barbara. New Wikimedia DC officers

As some of you may have already heard, Katie Filbert -- who has served as President of Wikimedia DC since last May -- will be spending the coming months in Europe supporting the development of the new Wikidata project ( http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikidata). Since the geographic requirements of this new position will make it difficult for her to participate in local activities in DC on a regular basis, Katie will be stepping down as President, effective today. Nicholas Bashour, the current Vice President of Wikimedia DC, has been elected to take the position of President for the remainder of the year. Kevin Chen, the chair of Wikimedia DC's Legal Committee, will replace Nicholas as Vice President. Katie will retain her current seat on the Wikimedia DC Board of Directors. Good news! I just heard from Cat Allman at Google that they are willing to support Wikimania 2012 in DC at the diamond level (40k). The email I received was also sent to wikimania-sponsorship(a)wikimedia.org. It contains a purchase order number and instructions for billing. Will things just work from here, or do I need to do anything else? A big thanks should go to Stefano Mazzocchi, Danny Berlin and Chris DiBona at Google who helped make this happen. //Ed
