Dear Canadian Wikipedians,
Last Sunday a group of about 30 Wikipedians from the Toronto area meet at the Linux Caffe. During the meet-up Sue Gardner, the Executive Director of the Wikimedia Foundation, introduced herself and outlined her hope for the creation of a future WM Chapter in Canada.
Sue was extremely impressed by the energy and enthusiasm of the local Wikimedia contributors and she has asked me to convey to you her highest regard for the work this list and many others behind the scene are conducting to advance the mission of the Wikimedia movement. We hope you will continue to form meet-up and gatherings throughout Canada in the coming weeks and months. Sometimes there is no substitute for the power of in-person interactions, we hope this meet-up is the first of many successful events which will lead to Canada forming a robust community of volunteers.
If in the coming months and years WM-Canda considers hosting a larger national conference or Wiki-meet-up please keep me informed as I might be able to persuade one of the WMF Board of Trustees or maybe even Jimmy Wales to attend.
Thank you to all those who attended the meeting, I wish you and WM Canada the best of luck as you progress toward chapter status and advance the mission of the Wikimedia movement.
With great respect and regards, James T. Owen
