Hi Alan,
I'm not sure what the status is, but I for one have been following this thread,
but haven't had much to say. I'm still interested in MWC but haven't heard much
in the way of updates lately either.
As for Wikimania, I don't know enough about it to comment intelligently. Having
an organizing body (like MWC) might make a coordinated bid a little easier, no?
Cheers,
Brian

With VIA, the cheapest normal one person fares are $145 return. VIA Rail do groups rates for groups of ten or more, and every 20th ticket is free (effectively) - see http://www.viarail.ca/en/fares/discounts/groups - but I've no idea hwo much you get off. You can also charter a private car (http://www.viarail.ca/en/resources/chartered-car-rental), but that costs around $85/person one way.
Apologies for the awful typing on my last message... was in too much of a hurry!

I would be willing to be involved with a Toronto bid. I live in the city,
downtown.

To me, the cheif advnatages of Montreal over Toronto is the potential for government support, plus the bilingualism. (Wikimania Buenos Aires proved that a non-English speaking city can work and be a Good Thing).
Given that Montreal's bis seems much more advancedthan any otehr Canadian city, I think we should all get behind it and support it. I am sure there is plenty that can be done to help the bid by those who live utside of Montreal.

> Coren has noted that funding may be available from government sources for Montreal which would be a plus when the jury looks at the bid. The less Wikimedia has to pay, the better. Another area to look into is getting special rates on airfare from a major carrier, which the tourism bureau may be able to help secure. These advantages, combined with the bilingual area, make Montreal appealing. The Wikimedians in Toronto and Vancouver would be able to assist in arranging transportation from their respective areas.

So, what do people think about Montreal's bid for Wikimania, and what can we do to support it?
