Hi all,
A photo scavenger hunt in Boston, named *Wikipedia Takes Boston*, is in the works. The event would entail taking pictures of sights in Boston, ideally those for which photographs don't yet exist on Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons.
For those interested: what dates would work?
The April meetup sounds like it may be moved to Sunday, 4/10. That leaves weekend days of 4/9, 4/16-17 and 4/23-24 available for April. Easter is Sunday, 4/24. Given that, I'm inclined to go with Saturday 4/16 and leave the option of Sunday open in case Saturday is rainy or especially overcast.
Best, Eric

It sounds great and I'm delighted to see something like this happening -- I've been wanting to organize more photo scavenger hunts but have had very little Wikipedia time the last few months.
I could definitely be available 4/9 or 4/10 and probably on 4/16, probably not on the other days.

Could we try Sunday 4/10 (during the day) with the same option for the day before? I don't think we would still be taking photos at night when the meetup is at any rate.

Alright, let's do the scavenger hunt on Sunday, 4/10!
How does beginning at 12:00 PM and ending at 5:00 PM sound to people? Would meeting at Government Center to launch the event work? At the end of the event, it would probably make sense to gather near where we'll be having the April meetup that evening.
Once we have these basic details set, I'll request a geonotice for the event.

I think that sounds good. We definitely want to meet near the meetup spot. Transitioning right into it :)

How about Copley Square? Many of the missing photographs in Boston are farther south anyway, in Dorchester and Roxbury. Though Government Center would be fine.
12pm-5pm is not a lot of time to collect photographs -- it can be surprising how long it takes to get some good shots -- but I might try to come in to town a little early and get a head start :-)
--t.
Seconded on Copley Square. It sounds like a better place to launch the event, for the reason you mention. We could meet right outside Boston Public Library.
I've been compiling a list of 200+ places in Boston that don't have images on Wikipedia yet. It's organized by neighborhood and category of place. I'll send a link to the draft list within the next few days. If we split up by neighborhood, then we'll get more widespread and efficient coverage of the city and be less likely to have multiple people photographing the same place.
If people want more time, then perhaps we could start at 11:00 AM and end at 5:30 PM? The meetup is at 7:00 PM (and we usually meet over food) -- ending at 5:30 PM would give us some time to upload the photos we've gathered. That entails wrapping up at some place with Internet access, but I don't think that should be too hard to find.

Ah, so the actual meetup will be at 7pm? Where?

I hope everybody knows about these resources:

The toolserver link can be reached from the category page ("Map of all coordinates from Google"). It works on my iPhone, though the rendering is a little sluggish. It is positively invaluable for photo-hunting expeditions.

Hi all,
The event page for Wikipedia Takes Boston is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Takes_Boston. Look there for more details on event rules, etc. in the coming days.
A tentative goal list for places to photograph that day is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Takes_Boston/Goals. The list includes over 200 places in six different Boston neighborhoods. I'll be adding more neighborhoods soon. (Note that this goal list includes all of the places that have coordinates listed in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Wikipedia_requested_photographs_in_Suf... ).
Please sign up on the event page if you're interested in coming!
Best, Eric (User:Emw)
