Hello Wikimedia Bangladesh,
I have contacted a few of you directly and I am sorry that I have not contacted others of you, but thank you for meeting me when I was in Bangladesh in February. I appreciate the interest that you all have in Wikipedia and I want to find ways to support the Bangladesh chapter and development of Bangla Wikipedia more.
As I told some of you, I develop health articles on Wikipedia. WikiProject Medicine is one of the most active community collaborations on Wikipedia, and one of the most active Wikipedians in this group is "Doc James" Heilman (user:jmh649), who is an emergency room physician in Canada. Among other things, Doc James is an organizer for the "WikiProject Medicine Translation Task Force" and a member of a proposed thematic organization to support Wikipedians developing health articles, Wiki Project Med.
The Translation Task Force seeks to translate health articles from English Wikipedia into every other language, and especially for Wikipedia projects with few articles. I think you all are aware that Bangla Wikipedia is one of the smaller communities despite Bangla being one of the most spoken languages in terms of numbers of speakers, so many people are interested in seeing Bangla Wikipedia get more and better articles.
I am writing today because Doc James would like someday to visit Bangladesh and promote the development of health articles in Bangla Wikipedia, and to talk about Wikipedia in general with doctors, medical students, and health organizations. Two of his concerns would be getting local promotion for any talks or workshops he would give, and also his personal safety if there is political unrest in the streets.
James will be in the region soon for only a day, and he could visit Dhaka. If he were in Dhaka for a day, could someone at Wikimedia Bangladesh arrange for him to be invited to give a talk at a university or medical school?
Thanks for your attention. I myself hope to visit Dhaka again and work more closely with you all and other Wikipedians.
yours,
