Congratulations to the bidding team, and to the London team who also did a particularly excellent job. There were five official bids: Bristol, Naples and Surakarta, as well as the two finalists of Hong Kong and London[2]. The Jury and the bidding teams discussed them in three public IRC meetings in April. We determined that Hong Kong and London were the strongest contenders, and decided to focus on these two as the finalists. After further e-mail enquiries, and considering evaluation by Wikimedia Foundation staff, a final, private meeting was held to reach a final decision. The Jury was pleased by the high quality in both the final bids, and required over three hours' discussion to reach the final verdict. We considered each bid according to the criteria[3], focussing on following factors: Venue, Program, Geo-location & Logistics, Local Opportunities, Accommodations, Team & Chapter, and Budget & Finances. We found consensus that the Hong Kong bid was the stronger, especially because of their strong advance planning; solid support by the local Wikimedia Chapter, the community, local government, and a partner organisation that is experienced in planning conferences; and their good combination of venue and accommodation. The Jury has confidence that the Hong Kong bidding team will pull off a magnificent Wikimania, and we are pleased for our global community to return to Asia once again. With a motivated group of volunteers who have experience in organizing smaller Wikimedia activities, and a partner with experience in organizing larger-scale events, they have found a good mix to create a successful conference. The Jury did also identify some weaker points in each the bids, and will be happy to share those privately with the teams so that the Hong Kong team can use that to their advantage in organizing Wikimania 2013, and the other teams can use the feedback to improve their bids for a future year. We thank all candidate teams - the process is gruelling and requires a very substantial time investment. They are all to be commended for their submissions. To use this soap-box for a moment, as Moderator I would like to remind the community that we hope that this time was the last that we use this ad-hoc process to decide on the Wikimania venue, and encourage everyone to engage with the discussion on Meta[4] about how we might select Wikimania 2014 and beyond in a more open, community-led way. উইকিমিডিয়া বাংলাদেশের দেশব্যাপী আউটরিচ ও ওয়ার্কশপ কার্যক্রম

সুধী আশা করি আপনারা সবাই গত শুক্রবার হয়ে যাওয়া মিট-আপের বিষয় সম্পর্কে অবগত আছেন। মিট-আপের দিনটি একটু অসুবিধাজনক হওয়ায় (দিনটি ছিলো শুক্রবার ও পরের দিন পহেলা বৈশাখ হওয়ায় অনেকেরই অনেক ব্যস্ততা ছিলো) আশানুরূপ উপস্থিতি হয়নি। তাই মিট-আপে আমাদের যা আলোচনা করার কথা ছিলো তা উপস্থিতদের সম্মতিক্রমে শুরু থেকে এই মেইলিং লিস্টেই করার সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়। এতে আরও অনেক বেশি মানুষের অংশগ্রহণ নিশ্চিত করা যাবে এবং আলোচনায় গতি আসবে বলে আশা করি। আপনার সবাই উইকিমিডিয়া বাংলাদেশের কর্মকাণ্ড সম্পর্কে কমবেশি অবগত। ইতিমধ্যেই চট্টগ্রামে আমরা সফলভাবে একটি অসম্মেলন আয়োজন করেছি যেখানে অংশগ্রহণকারীর সংখ্যা ছিলো প্রায় তিন শতাধিক। উল্লেখ্য বাংলা উইকিপিডিয়া অসম্মেলন ছিলো মূলত একটি আউটরিচ প্রোগ্রাম যার উদ্দেশ্য ছিলো মানুষকে বাংলা উইকিপিডিয়া সম্পর্কে জানানো ও এটি ব্যবহারে উৎসাহী করা ও আগ্রহীদের উইকিপিডিয়ায় অবদান কীভাবে রাখতে হয় তা জানানো। বর্তমানে উইকিমিডিয়া বাংলাদেশ অসম্মেলন পরবর্তী কিছু বড় ধরনের কার্যক্রম শুরু করার আশা রাখে যা শুধু একটি নির্দিষ্ট একটি এলাকায় সীমাবদ্ধ থাকবে না, বরং দেশের বিভিন্ন স্থানেই উইকিমিডিয়া মুভমেন্ট ছড়িয়ে পড়বে। এ জন্য উইকিমিডিয়া বাংলাদেশের সুনির্দিষ্ট কিছু পরিকল্পনা রয়েছে যা আমি আজকের ই-মেইলে প্রস্তাব করবো। দেশের বিভিন্ন স্থানে আউটরিচ ও ওয়ার্কশপ প্রোগ্রাম করার জন্য আমাদের বেশ কিছু স্বেচ্ছাসেবীর প্রয়োজন হবে যাঁরা ইতিমধ্যেই উইকিপিডিয়ার সাথে পরিচিত ও কিভাবে উইকিপিডিয়া কাজ করে সে ব্যাপারে প্রাথমিক ধারণা রাখেন। এসব স্বেচ্ছাসেবীদের উইকিপিডিয়া বাংলাদেশ প্রয়োজনীয় সহযোগিতা করবে যাতে তাঁরা নিজ নিজ স্থানে কমিউনিটি তৈরির কাজ ও উইকিপিডিয়া সচেতনতা তৈরি করতে পারেন। স্বাভাবিকভাবেই এ স্বেচ্ছাসেবকগণ হবেন উইকিমিডিয়া বাংলাদেশের সদস্য, যাঁরা উইকিমিডিয়া বাংলাদেশের সকল কার্যক্রমে সক্রিয়ভাবে ভূমিকা রাখবেন ও এই সংগঠনটি এগিয়ে নিতে প্রত্যক্ষভাবে কাজ করবেন। আমরা ইতিমধ্যেই জানি ঢাকার বাইরে এমন অনেক আগ্রহী উইকিমিডিয়ান আছেন যাঁরা এটাতে উৎসাহী হবেন। আমার এ মেইলের উদ্দেশ্য হচ্ছে তাঁরা ও সামগ্রিকভাবে সম্প্রদায়ের সকলে কাজটি কিভাবে দেখেন ও এটি সফলভাবে সমাধান করতে কি কি প্রয়োজন হবে বলে মনে করেন তা জানা। আমরা তাই মেইলে বিস্তারিত আলোচনা করে এ বিষয়গুলো খুঁজে বের করার চেষ্টা করবো। তাই আপনাদের যে-কোনো প্রকার প্রশ্ন নির্দিদ্বায় আপনারা এই থ্রেডে রাখতে পারেন, বা ব্যক্তিগতভাবে আমাকে ই-মেইলও করতে পারেন। তবে এ থ্রেডে ই-মেইল করাই ভালো হবে কারণ তাতে আরও অনেকে আপনার প্রশ্নের উত্তর বা মন্তব্যের ফিডব্যাক দিতে পারবেন। তাই দেরি না করে আপনার সবাই মতামত দিন। আর ঢাকার বাইরে আগ্রহী সেচ্ছাসেবকগণ, আপনাদের প্রয়োজনটাও আপনারা জানান! সবাইকে শুভেচ্ছা। তানভির রহমান সাধারণ সম্পাদক, উইকিমিডিয়া বাংলাদেশ

সুধী উইকিপিডিয়ানদের নিয়ে আগামী শনিবার, ১৪ এপ্রিল একটি মিট-আপ করার প্রস্তাব করছি। কোথায় ও কখন করা যায় এবং কি নিয়ে কথা বলা যায় এ বিষয়ে কারও কি কোনো আইডিয়া আছে? থাকলে শেয়ার করার অনুরোধ। সকলের জন্য উন্মুক্ত এই মিটআপে মূলত উইকিমিডিয়া বাংলাদেশের পরবর্তী কার্যক্রম সম্পর্কে আলোচনা করা হবে। এছাড়াও উইকিপিডিয়া ও উইকিমিডিয়া সংক্রান্ত আগ্রহীদের বিভিন্ন প্রশ্নের উত্তর দেওয়ার সুযোগ তো আছেই। তবে মিটআপের সময় ও স্থান প্রস্তাব করুন। :-) তানভির

সুধী, বেশ কিছুদিন আলোচনার পর গতকাল, ২৬ মার্চ বাংলা উইকিপিডিয়ার নতুন প্রধান পাতা চালু হয়েছে। বাংলা উইকিপিডিয়ার আগের প্রধান পাতাটি অনাকর্ষণীয় -- এমন মত বেশ আগে থেকেই আমরা পেয়ে আসছিলাম। পরবর্তীতে বেশ কিছুদিন আগে বাংলা উইকিপিডিয়ায় নতুন প্রধান পাতার ডিজাইন শুরু হয়। জমা পড়া মোট তিনটি ডিজাইন থেকে একটি বেছে নিয়ে এবং অনেক যোজন-বিয়োজনের পর এই নতুন পাতাটি নির্বাচিত করা হয়। নতুন এই প্রধান পাতায় এবার নির্বাচিত নিবন্ধের সাথে ভালো নিবন্ধগুলোও যোগ করা হয়েছে। সেই সাথে আপনি জানেন কি, ভালো নিবন্ধ, ও নির্বাচিত নিবন্ধে র্যান্ডম সুইচিং চালু করা হয়েছে তাই আপনারা প্রতিবার পার্জ (পাতার সর্বডানে ওপরে হালনাগাদ লিংকটি দেখুন) করলে নতুন নিবন্ধ/তথ্য আসবে। আপনাদের সবার অংশগ্রহণে বাংলা উইকিপিডিয়া এগিয়ে যাক, এই শুভকামনা। তানভির
