Hello,
s1-user / rosemary will quite soon run out of space.
Thus I will move everything except enwiki itself onto a SAN partition.
This will happen next Friday
26st Apr 1900 - 2200 UTC
I suppose to have everything back online within one hour in this time frame.
Please not that s1-user will not be available during the move.
Kind regards,
Marlen/nosy
Hi all!
As you know Wikimedia Deutschland has the mandate to create a roadmap
for the availability of features on Wikimedia Labs / Tool Labs that are
currently available on the Toolserver until the next membership assembly
(May 25th). I have worked on this for the last weeks and now published a
draft. I would like to get your feedback on this draft to make sure it
is sound and nothing vital is missing. The current version is not final
but hopefully very close to what will be presented at the membership
assembly next month.
The plan has been drafted in close cooperation with the responsible
people at the Wikimedia Foundation. It still needs a final ok from them
though.
You can find the drafts at:
English version: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Tool_Labs/Roadmap_en
German version: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Tool_Labs/Roadmap_de
To not spread out discussions too far please use the discussion pages of
the above two pages for comments, suggestions and corrections.
Cheers, Silke

Hello all,
I will piggyback Marlen’s window today to reboot the linux-database-servers
for changing their IPs to the new range too. You can follow the progress at

Hello!
As you might know, Wikimedia Foundation is building a cloud-based
infrastructure (Labs/Tool Labs) that - in the long run - will be a
replacement for the toolserver. Don't worry! The toolserver will be not
just be switched off. WMF and WMDE would like to support you as much as
possible when it comes to migrating tools.
You can see the current status of features on [1].
We will publish a road map giving more details and dates in the second
half of this month.
Tool Labs is not ready yet right now, but it will be - most probably in
the months, partly in the weeks to come. (Though we know that
unpredictable stuff can happen and there are open questions left.)
Looking at the List of Tools [2], I would like to thank all tool
maintainers that have contributed to gathering information about tools
currently running on the toolserver. Thanks a lot to early adopters,
too, who are helping to test Tool Labs!
Quite a lot of tools that I added based on information in jira and
tswiki are still lacking information on dependencies and licenses.
I am especially intrigued about the number of non-free tools on the
toolserver because Labs, Tool Labs, the Bots/webservices project all
accept software under OSI-approved licenses only.
So, if you haven't added your tools to the list yet or you find it added
incompletely by someone else, please edit the list at [2]!
Here is what I'm asking you to do:
* Please check if your tools are on the list (correctly).
* Please fill in your software dependencies, data dependencies, use
patterns (are they running continously? or webservices? Batch runs?
etc.), the license.
* If you have not given your software an explicit license, please note
that only free software can migrate to Labs. Consider putting your stuff
under a free license. (as in OSI-approved)
* If you have already migrated your bot or tool to Labs and it is in the
list, please say so in the last column "status".
* If your toolserver account has expired and/or your tool is not active
on the toolserver right now, please add it to the second table at the
bottom of the page. In the last column write that it is not running
currently and if you want to revive it. If you are considering to revive
it, please fill in all the details, too, so that your needs will be
taken into account.
* Please follow the toolserver-announce list for more information to come.
Thanks for your help! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate
to ask me, to ask on toolserver-l and/or on labs-l.
Cheers, Silke

Hello,
Toolserver needs a complete change of the officially assigned IP addresses.
Every accessible service will be involved.
This involves several maintenances that will cause interruptions.
The maintenances will also cause interuptions for OSM.
To see if everything comes up correctly reboots will be necessary on all regarding servers.
I will start with parallel IP setup at the load balancers/head nodes damiana and turnera.
I will do this next Thursday, 28th March 20-22 h UTC.
The next maintenances will involve the login servers, web and mail servers.
They will happen at Friday, 29th March 20 - 22h UTC and Sunday, 31th March 20 - 22h UTC.
I hope everything will work after that.
Cheers
nosy/Marlen
Hello all,
the users apmon and timl <s>were now damned to do all the boring stuff in
future</s> were promoted to Operators to help the roots. Apmon will also put
the needed OSM-configs into our puppet-system to make it possible to setup a
new OSM-Server.
You can find the belonging ticket at [1].
Sincerely,
DaB.

Hello,
for a kernel-update I hereby announce downtime of sql-s1-rr-a, sql-s2 and sql-
s5-user for tomorrow
FRIDAY, 22:30 UTC.
The downtime of each host will be 20-40min. Not affected will be sql-s5-rr.
sql-s1-rr will be switched to rosemary so no downtime there too, but sql-s1
will be slower. See [1] for details.
Sincerely,
DaB.

Hello all,
for a config-change at our sql-load-balancer (that's the software-thing that
converts something like "sql-s2-user" to the real server) I hereby announce a
maintenance-window for tomorrow,
WEDNESDAY, 20:05 UTC.
During the downtime no connections to the databases will be possible, running
database-queries will be aborted. If all works correctly the downtime will be
less than 1 minute (just the restart of the service), but just to be sure
calculate with 1h of downtime. You can follow the process at [1].
Sincerely,
DaB.

Hello,
the ancient subdomain ts.wikimedia.org has been removed.
All services are reachable and as far as I know used anyway via toolserver.org but
if you still use one of the names in your tools feel informed.
