Hello all,
I will give the SGE-update (see my mail from last time [1]) another try this
week and so I hereby announce downtime of the SGE-system on Thursday between
19:00 and 23:00 UTC. If the update is not successful on Thursday I will give
it another try at Friday between 19:00 and 23:00 UTC.
During the downtime no SGE-process will start on any server, while
processes/jobs that had started already will continue to run; jobs which are
queued at the beginning of the maintenance-window will start after the window
is done.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Sincerely,
DaB.
P.S: Just to be clear: There will be ONLY maintenance on the SGE, not on the
databases like last time.

Hello all,
since a few months a weekly report [1] about events in the german-speaking
Wikipedia and the Wikimedia-organizations is send to a few mailing-lists; I
think that this is a very good idea and so I will try to establish something
similar for the TS too (on monthly base). For the soon-ending April I wrote a
short report below and I think we can all together write a report for May on a
wiki-page [2].
Sincerely,
DaB.
= Report for April 2012 =
== s2 and s6 corrupt ==
It was discovered this month that the databases of s6 [A] and s2 [B] are
defect and will need a re-import. A dump of s6 was already requested at 2.
April at the WMF, but no response yet. A dump for s2 will be requested soon.

== s1 is back to normal ==
Both server for s1 (enwiki) are back to normal [A].

==Interwiki-Bot-MMP-rule is in charge ==
On 2. April the new "No interwiki-bos outside the interwiki-bot-MMP"-rule
became relevant [A]. Because no MMP was created to that timestamp yet, the
date was moved to 15. Mai [B]. Toto Azéro started a thread about planing the
MMP short time ago [C].

== SGE-Update not successful ==
A second try to update the SGE to version 6.2u5p2 was not successful [A]. The
import of the old config into the new system aborts every time. We need the
update to include the new Linux-boxes.

==Reminder of hackathon ==
Sumana Harihareswara reminded us about the Berlin hackathon which will take
place in Berlin (Germany) in the beginning of June [A].

==Wikidata started ==
The working on Wikidata started on 1. April [A]. This is not a real topic for
the TS at the moment, but I am sure that plenty of tools will be created as
soon as the project is alive.

==DaB. added as TS-Announce-ML-admin ==
The WMF-techs added me as a admin for the Toolserver-announce-mailinglist so
that I can add and remove people myself (before only River could do that).
More people should be able to send important mails to that mailinglist in near
future.
Until next month,
DaB.

Hello all,
I will be away between Wednesday (18.) and Sunday (22.) because of my duties
as cash auditor (Kassenprüfer) of the WMDE. I guess that there will be time to
read my mail, but I will not be in chat during this time-frame. So if you have
a request, open a bug in JIRA (like you should always do ;)) and try to reach
Nosy if it is urgent.
Sincerely,
DaB.

Hello all,
the import of s1 on thyme was finally done this morning (took a few days longer
than I expected); replication is already running, replag is lower than 5 days
at the moment. I declared it as sql-s1-rr and it is read-only at the moment
(to speed up the replication a bit).
I will also switch sql-s1-user to it and will make it read/write somewhen
tonight. Shortly after I start the re-import on rosemary. Please note that
thyme has no commons-copy at the moment, so joins between enwp/commons are not
possible on sql-s1-rr at the moment and will not be possible on sql-s1-user
soon (when I start the re-import on rosemary).
Sincerely,
DaB.

Hello all,
we discovered today that s6 became corrupt [1] after replication-problems last
week [2]. We requested a dump already, because it will need a re-import, and
we will try to keep the downtimes of s6 to a minimum. The first downtime will
be tomorrow evening, starting 19:00 UTC and should be under 1h (I think
15min); we will preparing the re-import during this time (for the techs: We
clone the zone of z-dat-s6-a). I will message you again when the dump-import
is done and we will make the final switch (which will cause a read-only-time
and another short down-time).
Sincerely,
DaB.
