Hi all:
We're almost ready to launch the Open Policy Network website. Sorry for the delay!
Here's a draft: http://staging.openpolicynetwork.org/ (will eventually be openpolicynetwork.org).
We need interested orgs to indicate whether they'd like to be listed as members on the website. If you are we will include a logo on this page
http://staging.openpolicynetwork.org/about/#members
Please let me know if you want your org listed and where to get a .png/.jpg logo.
Thanks! timothy

Hi Mathias,
Thank you for sending this around. I was actually speaking with someone from the Creative Commons School of Open about this yesterday. I think it's worth getting involved, although might be worth a discussion first.
Thanks and regards,
Stevie

The OKFN just confirmed that they're part of this, too.
We are definitely in as in working with this. As far as organisational membership (and thus logo) is concerned, we need to think about *which Wikimedia* should be shown.

I am unfortunately not very gifted in graphic design, but I'd love any kind of cool-looking logos, logotypes, headers. If someone has the time/ressources to do this, I'd be very happy. So far I have only managed to piece together a letter-headed paper (far from professional, but does the trick when needed), which I am attaching.

I was, in fact, struck by the 3-d artwork displayed on the website which bears a rather striking resemblance to the Wikipedia puzzle globe.
WMF has a design team whose focus is representing the Foundation's visual interests. I believe we should not be in competition with that team on the Advocacy Advisory Group list, but maybe ask them which existing logos would best serve (perhaps customized to the task.)

Is Tim on this list? If not, someone should invite him :) [+Tim on CC]
With regards to joining: maybe in the short term it makes sense for chapters and WMF to each evaluate joining the OPN individually, keeping FCAKGEU as an informal group? I think the current informal structure has served FCAKGEU pretty well: it gives us flexibility as to who joins what actions and makes it easy to enable/empower new participants. I suspect in the long term we'll want to create something more formal (and with a better name) for signing onto EU-wide actions, but we probably shouldn't rush into creating a new organization just to join a group that is itself likely quite flexible about membership and who we know quite well.

Hi Luis: Yes i'm on the list. And your suggestion to have chapters and the hq office figure out separately whether they want to join seems fine. tvol

Please let me know if you want your org listed and where to get a .png/.jpg logo.

Stephen and I spoke with Tim Vollmer of OPN/CC on Tuesday, and OPN seems like this is something both chapters and the Foundation might find useful. Essentially, the purpose is to make it easier to share information about how to influence policy towards more open licensing. This isn't a substitute for other kinds of work (e.g., on copyright reform) but may be a useful resource for Wikimedians (perhaps particularly chapters) who are working with local governments on explaining the value of open licensing.
As further context on the OPN, it may be useful to take a look at the guiding principles: http://staging.openpolicynetwork.org/about/#principles
and work plan: http://staging.openpolicynetwork.org/resources/#workplan
If no one here has serious objections, Stephen and I suggest listing the Foundation as a formal member of the group, and I think chapters, FKAGEU, or WEASEL may also want to consider joining.

Hi,
after the two day Big Fat Brussels Meeting Vol. 2 [1] we've decided to have the FKAGEU participate in this. This way we can save some time resources. Individual chapters, however, will be free to join if they wish so.
We'll have to work out the best way to share information/resources within the FKAGEU about this and see how to best participate (e.g. representative that informs everyone else or multiple participants). It will depend on the structure and nature of the OPN.
