Stephen and I spoke with Tim Vollmer of OPN/CC on Tuesday, and OPN seems like this is something both chapters and the Foundation might find useful. Essentially, the purpose is to make it easier to share information about how to influence policy towards more open licensing. This isn't a substitute for other kinds of work (e.g., on copyright reform) but may be a useful resource for Wikimedians (perhaps particularly chapters) who are working with local governments on explaining the value of open licensing.

As further context on the OPN, it may be useful to take a look at the guiding principles:
http://staging.openpolicynetwork.org/about/#principles

and work plan:
http://staging.openpolicynetwork.org/resources/#workplan

If no one here has serious objections, Stephen and I suggest listing the Foundation as a formal member of the group, and I think chapters, FKAGEU, or WEASEL may also want to consider joining.

Subject: do you want to be listed on the Open Policy Network website?
To: open-policy-network@googlegroups.com

Hi all:

We're almost ready to launch the Open Policy Network website. Sorry
for the delay!

Here's a draft: http://staging.openpolicynetwork.org/ (will eventually
be openpolicynetwork.org).

We need interested orgs to indicate whether they'd like to be listed
as members on the website. If you are we will include a logo on this
page

http://staging.openpolicynetwork.org/about/#members

Please let me know if you want your org listed and where to get a
.png/.jpg logo.

Thanks!
timothy

P.S. we wrote a bit more about the OPN and Institute for Open
Leadership on the CC site awhile ago -
