It will provide an overview of the contribution that books and libraries in prison can make in supporting a reading culture, increasing literacy skills and preparing inmates for their socio-professional integration after their release. The international policy environment for prison libraries will be described, particularly the IFLA Guidelines for Library Services to Prisoners.
