I can do office hours on Friday and on other days too if there’s interest – I’ll set up something later on today and send to this list. You all can be awesome and help spread the word. You can also drop in and help!
I don’t think this will be useful for the screen cast.

Jake, I wish I could report that it went viral throughout the conference, but I don't know that it did. Jessamyn West took a stack of them and she may have more to report. But I'm not sure how many stickers booth staff gave out. In any case, I know that a lot more people heard about 1Lib1Ref than would have otherwise, so hopefully that will get more people to participate. Roy

Hi Roy!
While you're recovering from mid-winter, how did it go? What was the buzz like? How were the stickers received/displayed??
Thanks again so much for being the "giver of swag and hope".

Roy, when you say that you expect to recruit people you know to help distribute items and are fairly well equipped for Boston, do you mean that you are not looking for any additional librarians to volunteer? I might have some time, and I take it that Sara might as well.

I have the stickers that Jake kindly had made, and they will be available at the OCLC and National Library of Medicine booths in the exhibit hall, and I expect to also recruit people I know to help me distribute them more widely. Merrilee also gave me a slug of badge ribbons that she made that say "I edit Wikipedia". So I think I'm fairly well equipped for Boston. Thanks, Roy

Side note, when it comes to library conferences, badge ribbons are a hot commodity. I would encourage that a bunch be made for future conferences. All they need to say is ŒWikipedian¹ and include a spot for people to write in their username. They can be picked up at booth. I think librarians are a bit more ravenous about ribbons than tech people (who I noticed prefer stickers).

...for those that are already familiar with IRC that's great -- I've been in IRC exactly once and found it massively confusing.
I can offer to be on WebEx in my "personal room." I can commit to having the room open between 9 am and 4 pm Pacific on Friday and have blocked out the time on my calendar. If others would like to come and hang out with me (like for an hour) that would be great. Who knows how much interest there will be? WebEx supports screen sharing, so I figure I can share screens back and forth with those who log in (including other "experts") to give assistance to those who show up.
If this is successful, then perhaps we can repeat sometime next week.
I'll put something on the page -- feel free to distribute!

Okay I was going to put something on the page here, but I am stymied by what is going on with translation (and I am only really prepared to give help in English anyhow, because I am lame).

...for those that are already familiar with IRC that's great -- I've been in IRC exactly once and found it massively confusing.

I've found that the Wikipedia IRC channel [1] (aka "live chat") is often quite helpful and we could make sure that there are some librarians there for certain hours.

I don’t think this will be useful for the screen cast.

Merrilee and Roy,
Did you get a chance to put together office hours?
One of the items on our list for next year, I think, will be a screencast that is easily subtitled in different languages: we need to have a complex landscape of support for different types of learners.

Hi all,
In case anyone’s local to Durham and/or Chapel Hill, the libraries at Duke University and the University of North Carolina are hosting a series of seven edit-a-thons in March and April: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/UNC
* At Duke: Women of Science and Philosophy: Reframing the Canon with the Lisa Unger Baskin Collection and Project Voxhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Durham/Women_of_Science_and_Philosophy - 29 March 2016 * At UNC: Assessment in Psychology Edit-a-thonhttps://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meetup/UNC/Assessment_in_Psychology_3 - 31 March 2016 * UNC: North Carolina Folk Heritage Edit-a-thonhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/UNC/NC_Folk_Heritage_2016 - 5 April 2016 * UNC: Women + Graphic Novels Edit-a-thonhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/UNC/Women_%2B_Graphic_Novels_2016 - 6 April 2016 * UNC: African Diaspora Women Artists Edit-a-thonhttps://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meetup/UNC/African_Diaspora_Women_Artists - 7 April 2016 * UNC: Women in Science Edit-a-thonhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/UNC/Women_in_Science_2016 - 18 April 2016 * UNC: Art + Feminism 2016https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/UNC/Art_%2B_Feminism_2016 - 20 April 2016
Also, a group of us have fielded questions from local librarians and archivists about how to organize an edit-a-thon so we created a planning toolkit: http://www.ncarchivists.org/editathon-toolkit/

Thats amazing Emily! How is recruiting going for participation? The only other regions in the U.S. with that kind of editathon schedule, are very dense and have long historical networks. In my experience, student populations are often hard to engage, so you need a graduate student/faculty/volunteer core to make these kinds of events a success.

Thanks, Alex! We did a series of five last year and have expanded a little this year. Each edit-a-thon is coordinated by a different librarian and most of us have been working with classes or are part of a larger community event. You’re right that students can be hard to reach, but we’ve had great success in working with faculty members as you suggest. We’re also fortunate in that we have a great school of information & library science, and many of our organizers and volunteers come from there.

So library school students? Thats awesome -- since there is such a large presence of activity going on: has there been conversations about rotating more Wikipedia-inflected activities into the MLIS degree?
