Hello Wikipedian-Librarians
I've submitted a SXSW proposal to bring our shared dream of Wikipedia
'Infotopia' to the masses, and I need your clicking help to make it
happen. Vote at http://panelpicker.sxsw.com/vote/1146 (you'll have to
make an account unfortunately). If you still need convincing, I've
written a persuasive blog about the future or library data in Wikipedia
at http://hangingtogether.org/?p=2123.

Hello everyone and welcome to our new list subscribers!
About two weeks ago I shared information on the GLAM-Wiki US Consortium,
which we officially launched at the GLAM Night Out event at the Newseum
during Wikimania. We were also lucky enough to have the launch reiterated
by the Archivist of the United States, David Ferriero, during the closing
plenary.
The defining goal of the Consortium is to bring GLAM professionals together
with Wikipedians to work and discuss more efficiently together - and we've
definitely started off on the right foot! Already we have many
organizations, cultural professionals, and Wikipedians who are interested
in being a part of the GLAM-US Consortium. So with this momentum, it's
truly time to come together and establish a useful structure for this
network.
I urge you to join the conversation and help to establish what the
Consortium will look like, both in the short-term and long-term.
Things you can do:
- *Read *through this one-page overview of the Consortium's broad goals: *
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:GLAM/US/Consortium*<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:GLAM/US/Consortium>
- *Sign up* as an affiliate organization, chapter, or individual if you are
interested in taking part.
- *Share* your thoughts on the Consortium on the* talk page*, if you're
comfortable doing so, or on this *email list*.
- You can specifically address the following questions:
- What platforms for discussion and information dispersal are most
immediately useful & relevant to you?
- What organizational structures should be aimed for in the future?
- What funding models could be pursued in the future?
I have cc'd the Libraries list and the global GLAM list on this email just
as an FYI. In the future, all discussion of the GLAM-US Consortium will be
centralized here on the GLAM-US list. If you are on these other lists and
are interested in taking part, please sign up here:
https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/glam-us
With the abundance of talks, events, and praise for GLAM last week at
Wikimania, I've never been more proud to be a part of this incredible
global community. I'm really excited to see where the GLAM-US Consortium
might lead - in particular in bringing cultural professionals more
coherently into the conversation.
Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing your thoughts!
Best,
Lori

I sent out my first solicitation message today (to two music library
groups)....and then I realized:
Last year there was a signup page on WP where institutions could indicate
their plans for participation.
This year the WP:WLL page is rather crowded (the talk page even more so).
Shouldn't there be some space or page where institutions can indicate
their plans?

Hello,
At our last meet in March at Berlin, we discussed having Wiki Loves
Libraries global.
We had an outreach activity in Naga City, 300 km south of Manila last
weekend. At Ateneo de Naga University, the Wikimedia Philippines activity
was flocked by librarians, library science students and library science
professors and got excited at their first experience in creating and
editing articles in the Bicol Wikipedia.
The library is nice, at very close proximity is a computer laboratory with
40 units with excellent internet connection.
We would like to go back to Naga City again hopefully with a nice
presentation catered for libraries and for activities for the setup I
mentioned earlier.
I hope that we can get assistance from you to jump start these projects and
collaborations with group of librarians. We felt like a rockstar when we
are now being invited to other library association gatherings and open to
projects for libraries.

Hello all,
I'm very excited to share that Thursday, July 12th is GLAM Night Out at the
beautiful Newseum in Washington DC.
Consumer Reports, thanks to their recent partnership with Wikimedia and
their Wikipedian in Residence Lane Rasberry, has partnered with the
GLAM-Wiki US community to throw a fabulous party at the Newseum on the
first evening of Wikimania.
This will be the launch of the GLAM-Wiki US Consortium, a forthcoming
network of GLAM professionals, organizations, and Wikipedians. The event
includes a reception and networking event for Wikipedians, GLAM
professionals, and other nonprofit and media professionals, followed by a
media panel discussion on conflicts of interest in science and medicine.
We encourage all Wikipedians involved in or interested in GLAM to attend.
This will be a fun time to connect with the GLAM-Wiki community and network
with GLAM professionals and beyond.
Please see the Wikimania page for information:
http://wikimania2012.wikimedia.org/wiki/GLAM_Night_Out
The event is free but registration is required: http://bit.ly/RSVPnewseum
Also, don't forget that the Wikipedia Loves Libraries workshop will be held
on Wednesday:
http://wikimania2012.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Loves_Libraries
Please distribute as you'd like and we hope to see you there!

Dear all,
I am pleased to announce that registration is now open for the
GLAM-WIKI 2012 conference, to be held at the British Library in London
on 14th - 16th September 2012.
The conference will feature two days of presentations and workshops,
with the Friday focused on the work Wikimedia and similar
organisations have done in partnership with cultural institutions,
presenting case studies and discussing the benefits to both parties.
The Saturday will be oriented more towards the practical and technical
side, looking at ways to work together and running workshops to share
best practice.
The third day, Sunday 16th, will be an unconference day, with the
focus and agenda determined by the attendees on the day.
We are currently taking proposals for talks, workshops and panel
sessions, on three broad themes:
* Open content in the GLAM sector
* Developing sustainable partnerships
* New models and future projects
The call for papers will close on 23rd July, and the schedule will be
announced on 30th July.
Registration is now open at: http://glamwiki2012.eventbrite.co.uk/ and
accomodation details will be released at a later date when hotel

Hello everyone!
My name is David Parreño Mont and I'm a Catalan Wikipedian and the
Communications Coordinator for Amical Wikipedia. I'm one of the Catalan
Army members ;-)
This summer I'll do a kind of Wikipedia-in-Residence in the cultural
institutions of my town, Palafrugell.
Palafrugell<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palafrugell>is a village near
the Costa
Brava <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Costa_Brava> with a 23,000 inhabitants.
It's known for its beaches.
I'll combine all the institutions (library, archive, Josep
Pla<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josep_Pla>Foundation, the 2
museus...) to do edit-a-thons, workshops, expand
articles, release images to Wikimedia Commons, do a Wiki Takes... We also
have the support of the city council.
In fact, firstly we did a Wikipedia workshop on June 16 in the library with
17 attendees (photos<http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Biblioteca_de_Palafrugell>).
On June 18 we also did a Edit-a-thon in public library of
Figueres<https://twitter.com/Wikimediacat/status/214744002149363712>(where
Dali was born) to expand the Abdó
Terrades <http://ca.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abd%C3%B3_Terrades_i_Poli> article,
a former mayor (1812 - 1856) —was the bicentenary of his birth.
Moreover, Àlex Hinojo is doing a great job with all the libraries in
Catalonia!
I'm looking forward to working with you all.
Kind regards,
*David Parreño Mont*

I was looking at the latest revision to the Wikipedia Loves Libraries page
http://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Loves_Libraries
and noticed at the bottom it says:
"Follow us on T[witter] or F[acebook].
The Facebook link leads to the GLAMwiki page:
https://www.facebook.com/GLAMWIKI.US
So should the Twitter link be to the @glamwiki account?
Or should both be about Wikipedia Loves Libraries? (I know there is
neither a Twitter account or Facebook page for WLL).
