Subject: [External] [CODE4LIB] Have a library-related project that’s community focused, daring, and diverse? We want to fund it!
Hi everyone,
In June, thousands of librarians will travel to Washington D.C. to attend the American Library Association’s Annual Conference. To celebrate, Awesome Libraries<https://www.awesomefoundation.org/en/chapters/libraries<https://www.awesomefoundation.org/en/chapters/libraries>> and Awesome DC<https://www.awesomefoundation.org/en/chapters/dc<https://www.awesomefoundation.org/en/chapters/dc>> are hosting a collaborative, live pitch event on June 22nd at Open Gov Hub<http://opengovhub.org/<http://opengovhub.org/>>. We’re looking for creative and inspiring library projects that will have an impact on communities in Washington D.C. and across the globe. Six finalists will be chosen to pitch their idea to our panel of judges and members of the D.C. and library communities.
Our judges will choose two winning pitches, with one exclusively focused on the D.C. community. Each winner will walk out of the pitch event with $1,000 for their project!
In addition, the audience will vote for their favorite pitch of the night, with a prize funded by attendees’ registration donations. Attend and donate to help make an awesome library project a reality!
Do you have a library project you’d like to pitch? Submit a Pitch Proposal<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScBacgpWZ3i1sUUROEyFSbLrbIyqL8PpHi…<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScBacgpWZ3i1sUUROEyFSbLrbIyqL8PpHi…>> by Saturday, June 1st, 2019, to be considered.
Do you just want to be inspired or learn more about how to get involved with Awesome Libraries and Awesome DC? Register here<http://bit.ly/librarylivepitch<http://bit.ly/librarylivepitch>> by June 21st, 2019.
Light refreshments will be served. Seating is limited, so reserve your spot today!
OpenGov Hub is located at 1110 Vermont Ave NW, Suite 500. Please bring a photo ID to access the venue.

Hi everyone - I have no doubt that this will be the highlight of your
month! I'm pleased to share the Wikimania "spaces" and share with you that
call for proposals is open. I'd also like to call your attention to the
fact that there is a "libraries" space in addition to the GLAM space. The
Libraries "space leaders" (I am one) will be working closely with the GLAM
and other space leaders to review proposals that seem like they have cross
over potential.
So please share and let us know about questions and - importantly - submit
your proposals!
See you in Library Space!

for Wikimania 2019 Stockholm
To: Wikimania general list (open subscription) <

Dear Wikimaniacs, Wikimedians, and friends of the Wikiverse!
On behalf of the Wikimania 2019 Stockholm organising team, I am pleased to
announce two things:
- The list of accepted "Spaces".
- That the Call for Submissions is now OPEN.
https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2019:Submissions
Please join me in congratulating the Leaders of each of the accepted
Wikimania 2019 Spaces! As per the program design[1], Wikimania this year
has the format of "Spaces", each with its own group of "Leaders" - all of
who made a proposal to host a Space back in March. The core team has been
working with the Leaders since then to prepare an interesting, diverse, and
coherent conference. Each Space has its own topic area, and in their own
way they all of them help address the conference theme: "Stronger together:
Wikimedia, Free Knowledge and the Sustainable Development Goals".[2]
Each Space will have its own room for a period of time in the conference to
curate and coordinate as they see fit.[3] You can read about what each
Space is planning to achieve, and who is Leading it, at the link above. In
English-alphabetical order they are:
-
Accessibility (A11y): Components and Standards
-
Global Advocacy for Free Knowledge: Trends, Challenges, and Opportunities
-
Community Growth
-
Diversity
-
Education
-
Environmental sustainability
-

And of course the Poster session, which will be a plenary event.
For 2019, there is no 'central' program committee nor a single submission
form. To make a submission, visit the page of the Space which most relates
to your proposal, read its instructions for what kinds of submissions the
Leaders of that Space wish to receive. Then click the submission button.
Each Space is looking for different kinds of content or format. So it is
important that people wanting to propose a presentation/workshop/panel/etc
at Wikimania read the information that the Leaders of each Space have
provided.
Once again, the link to the list of all the accepted Spaces, each with its
own submission form, is here:
https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2019:Submissions#Spaces
Please feel free to share/forward this email.
Sincerely,
- Liam Wyatt (Volunteer program chair), and Eric Luth (Conference Manager,
Wikimedia Sverige)

[2] https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2019:Theme
[3] Note that the Spaces do NOT all have the same room capacity, or
duration. Thus the content of the Wikimania program is not intending to be
'evenly spread' across these topic areas.

Dear Ms.,
I thank you for your answer. I think that Mr. Andy Mabbett can give interesting Wikimedia and Libraries presentations http://pigsonthewing.org.uk/glam-wikipedia-qrpedia-amsterdam-hamburg/. His main field of interest is GLAM. However, his works can be applied to Libraries. I met him when he attended WikiArabia 2014 in Tunisia. He was an excellent inspiration for us when we created Tunisian Wikimedia GLAM section.

Hello everyone! Just a quick update on Structured Data on Commons deployments.
You may have noticed that we haven't deployed Depicts statements yet yesterday, and this is due to an unrelated bug.

Hello everyone,
One of the major additions of structured data to Wikimedia Commons is
arriving later this week: Depicts statements! See Keegan's message below
for more details and links.
With regards to visual arts, library and archival documents, and
specifically faithful representations of two-dimensional works and
documents: I would advise *not* to use the Depicts statement there, but to
wait for other statements to become available on Wikimedia Commons in
several weeks.
A separate property for that purpose has been created on Wikidata some time
ago: P6243 (digital representation of)
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property:P6243 - and it will only be possible
to use that in several weeks.
Depicts is probably appropriate for other cases though: in the case of
photographs of buildings, people, objects...
These are only rough first pointers. Modelling structured data on Commons,
and establishing best practices in that area, is - just like on Wikidata -
up to the community.
Many greetings! Sandra

Greetings,
(This message is also posted at the Commons Village Pump, and the SDC talk
page)
The Structured Data on Commons [0] team plans to release support for
depicts statements this week, on Thursday, 18 April. The community's
testing over the past several weeks [1] helped identify and fix issues
before launch, and the development team spent time setting up extensive
internal testing to make sure the release goes as well as possible.
This release is very simple, with only the most basic depicts statements
available. There is a significant amount of technological change happening
with this project, and this release contains a lot of background change
that the team needs to make sure works fine live on Commons before adding
further support. More parts to depicts statements, and other statements,
will be released within the next few weeks.
A page for depicts has been set up at Commons:Depicts [2] As I can't
actually write instructive Commons policy or guidelines, I encourage those
who have tried out simple depicts tagging add a few lines to the page
suggesting proper use of the tool. I also encourage the use to be
conservative at first, as we wait for more advanced features within the
coming month or two as additional statement support goes live.
I'll keep the community updated as the plans progress throughout the week,
the team will know better within the next day or two if things are
definitely okay to proceed with release.
