We hope that you and your loved ones are taking care during this
challenging time for the world. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected
countless aspects of our personal and professional lives, and the Wikimedia
Foundation is sending our very best wishes to all of you.
Equitable access to reliable, unbiased information has never been more
important. From *May 15th to June 5th*, we will be running the global
#1Lib1Ref campaign (virtually), with a focus on improving and increasing
the quality of content for the billions of people staying at home during
the public health crisis. As you may know, Wikipedia and other Wikimedia
projects have seen record-breaking pageviews in the last few weeks,
reflecting that people around the world are turning to us for trustworthy
information.[1]
With that in mind, this is a critical time to bring librarians and
Wikimedia together: more people are reading and learning from the web, and
we need to strengthen trust in our content through citations. Join us as we
do that, by helping us organize to encourage library communities to add one
more citation to Wikipedia.
What can you do?
We are advising everyone to follow WHO health guidelines

conduct in-person events. Instead, we will organize virtually, and we have
created recommendations for online meetings! Please share your digital

Hi all!
We are currently implementing a linked open data service linking our
resources to well known authority files. In doing so we stumbled upon
the usage of Wikipedia URIs in our data.
It turns out other authority files like DNB's culturegraph uses the
complete title within the URI:

→ dewiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johann_Wolfgang_von_Goethe
[0] states, that Wikipedia URL are not persistent and can change, for
example if a Person changes its name. So the question arises if a usage
of pageID would not be a better solution in context of linked open
data? In this context the upper link could be represented by
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki?curid=2501
Are there any concerns why this procedure could be a particularily bad
idea? Is the pageID in this case a persistent identifier for the page
on wikipedia?

Hi all, my OCLC colleague Chris Cyr and I have been workshopping an idea with Rosie Stephenson-Goodknight and Rob Fernandez -- that is incorporating library holdings from WorldCat into the Women in Red Redlists. We acknowledge that WorldCat holdings aren't perfect, and that they certainly aren't a surefire way of indicating notability -- however, they may be helpful in guiding editors (in the same way that other indicators in these lists might inspire an editor to get started -- for example, site links, a photo, country of origin etc.)
If you are interested in exploring this topic with us for your own gap area, please let me know. We have developed a methodology for getting the holdings numbers via OpenRefine so you can incorporate this into your own projects.

Project Information
This open access edited volume will be a collection of approximately 20 chapters authored by academic library workers and faculty, Library and Information Science (LIS) faculty, and disciplinary faculty from around the globe that highlights engagement with Wikimedia-related projects and activities.
This volume will be divided into two sections, and possibly a third:
1. The first section will include real-world examples of activities and approaches to working with Wikipedia.
2. The second section will focus on the theories and underlying concepts required for the development of pedagogical approaches to teaching with and within Wikipedia.
3. A third thematic section may be added, depending on the breadth and number of submissions, for example, a section related specifically to WikiData.
Possible Topics
We are seeking chapters that include both practical and theoretical work. Possible topics for chapters include (but are not limited to) the following list:
· Case studies of Wikipedia in information literacy instruction
· Student researchers in Wikipedia
· Collaboration between Wikimedia user groups and academic library staff
· Wikipedia student clubs and their connection to libraries
· Benefits of academic libraries partnering with Wikimedia projects
· The role of Wikimedians/Wikipedians in Residence
· Collaborating with university faculty in the classroom
· Edit-a-thon pedagogy and practice
· Critical Librarianship and Wikipedia
· Wikipedia's fight against misinformation and "fake news"
· Medical students and training
· Use of Wikibooks in classes
· Wikidata visualizations for education
· Increasing and diversifying the audience for archival collections through Wikipedia
· Addressing gaps in Wikipedia, such as gender, LGBTQ+, racial, linguistic, regional, etc.
Editorial Timeline (tentative)
April 1 – June 1, 2020: Call for chapter proposals is distributed
June 15, 2020: Chapter proposals selected and authors notified
October 1, 2020: First draft of chapters due to editors
December 1, 2020: Second draft of chapters due to editors
January 1, 2021: Manuscript to publisher
Submission Information
Please send the following information to the editors by June 1, 2020:
· A tentative title and abstract proposal: Up to 500 words in MS Word describing what you would intend to submit for this book. In your abstract, indicate which section of the book your proposal is aligned to.
· Please include links to any other publications you may have (i.e. an article, a blog post, or anything else that best reflects your writing style)
· Author CVs or resumes (no more than 2 pages)
Information for Accepted Proposals
Final chapters will be approximately 3,000 words in length. All citations must be APA 7th edition. This OA publication will be licensed under a CC BY 4.0 license. After final chapters have been edited and approved in English, authors will have the option of providing a second-language translation of their chapter. (example: English and Basque or English and Yoruba).This will be determined on a case by case basis.

2 weeks are left to propose content for the 2020 LD4 Conference! Wiki related proposals are warmly welcome at this library conference!
The conference will be held May 13-14 at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, USA with a focus on learning concrete ways that linked data benefits GLAM institutions and discovering pathways to participation in linked data. By bringing together a broad range of perspectives, and centering diversity, equity, inclusion, and ethics in our discussions, we will create a community of practice for linked data in libraries.
Thanks to the generous support of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, a limited number of stipends at three award levels are available to make participation possible for those who would not otherwise be able to attend:
* Registration fee ($100 US) waived
* Up to $500 US of travel expenses covered plus registration fee ($100 US) waived
* Up to $1250 US of travel expenses covered plus registration fee ($100 US) waived
Stipend applications will be reviewed by the Program Committee and recipients selected based on merit and need.
We are accepting proposals for content in a variety of formats and especially encourage proposals (conference or pre-conference) from participants from groups and regions that are traditionally underrepresented in conferences related to linked data in libraries and other cultural heritage organizations, as well as proposals from early career professionals.
