Hi all,
You are invited to participate in a community meeting about the representation of gender and related information on Wikidata on February 1, 2023 at 9:30AM PT/12:30PM ET/17:30 UTC (time zone converter<https://zonestamp.toolforge.org/1675272629>). Please see the attached calendar invite. Call details are also below.
The meeting will start with a brief overview of ongoing work to make gender-related information more precise, accurate, and ethical in Wikidata. We will identify current challenges and walk through a logic model on the handling of pronouns in Wikidata, as developed through the initial phase of this work. We welcome feedback, general discussion, and concerns from attendees with an eye towards collaboration on future work.
We hope to see you soon!
Alex Jung, Clair Kronk, and Crystal Yragui

Dear all,
I hope this email finds you settling back in after the holidays (or
ideally, still on vacation).
I'm sharing an opportunity to join what should be a great event at the end
of this month!
You are warmly invited to register for the *free and hybrid* conference, "A
Right to Research in Africa?" which is hosted by ReCreate from January 23 -
27. Information about the conference is here [1] and you can still register
to attend virtually [2]. The conference will cover a week of debates on
copyright and access to knowledge, with discussions that range from
digitising heritage to accessing African Data on health and the
environment. Wikimedians will be hosting some of the sessions, including
Douglas Scott from Wikimedia South Africa and Wikimedia Deutschland will
also share some of their work around "public money - public good" [3].
Tune in for one or more sessions & please feel free to share with others
who you think might be interested.
All the best,
Ziski
