Ori pointed me to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:The_Wikipedia_Adventure (prototype at http://en.wikipediaadventure.org/).
It's basically a game that walks you through becoming a Wikipedia editor. It has its own rough tour library, but it seems like they could use GuidedTour to great effect.
The code (http://en.wikipediaadventure.org/w/skins/common/tutorial.js) is under the public domain, so we might be able to use some snippets as well.
The script is pretty elaborate (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:The_Wikipedia_Adventure/Script)

The visual design and copy need work, but I like what they did a lot!

This newest grant proposal is actually to use the existing functionality of Guided Tours and add a narrative and gamification elements on top of it using simple on-wiki tools in order to build The Wikipedia Adventure on-wiki (eliminating the need for separate dev or hosting). That older demo was made by another user and is not part of the new plan, just fyi - it starts to get a bit confusing because the idea for this game has been through several iterations over the past couple of years. Cheers, Siko

I met up with Ocaasi about this today. He has some very interesting ideas for introducing people to Wikipedia in a fun, guided, way.

Ocaasi's proposal was just approved as an Individual Engagement Grant. https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG/The_Wikipedia_Adventure
Congratulations! :)

Congratulations. Getting people to try things on pages rather than reading about it helps them understand wikis and reduces anxiety over the editing process.
mock interactions with simulated 'real' editors. Some of them are friendly, some are less so
And the Academy Award for best interactive script goes to... :)
