2013/11/23 Steven Walling swalling@wikimedia.org:
If you look at the signup form in German (https://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Spezial:Anmelden&type=signup) you'll notice that the link to the username policy is very long.
This message, which you can view at https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Createacct-helpusername was customized locally by a German admin.
I'd recommend that this message be shortened so that it doesn't overflow in to the next line like that. The message is designed to be on the right hand side of the label "Benutzername", and is meant to not be an entire sentence like that. Even something as short as "Help" could work I think.
If anyone has recommendations for the easiest way to correct this, I'd appreciate your advice very much.
Steven, I'd recommend not to change that message because it is correct and you can understand easily what it means. German phrases are usually longer than their English equivalent, so that's all right (the German translation of an article from Scientific American can be two pages longer than the English version).
Regards, Jürgen.
