Analytics needs to know which reports at stats.wikimedia.org people are using. They will be decommissioning it around the end of the year, but plan to re-implement/port the most important reports. Please comment at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T107175 if you use any in particular. Aggregate User Agent information (which I think is the one I've used the most) is already listed. Matt

IRC channel logging starting August 3rd

Starting Monday August 3rd, 2015 (a little over a week from now), we will start publicly logging the #wikimedia-collaboration IRC channel. Anything that anyone says in this channel will be visible publicly and forever(*) at http://bots.wmflabs.org/~wm-bot/logs/%23wikimedia-collaboration <http://bots.wmflabs.org/%7Ewm-bot/logs/%23wikimedia-collaboration> A number of people have requested this, but because IRC logging is a controversial subject for some people, Matt and I decided to announce it well in advance. We will also announce this in the channel topic, and once logging is live a link to the log will appear in the channel topic as well.

Weekly deployment update

Over the next few days, wmf14 will be deployed to WMF wikis. The highlights of what's new in wmf14 are: - WikiLove is no longer broken <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T95464> on Flow boards. - WikiLove change tags now appear in recent changes again <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T105444>. - The WikiLove button is now hidden when JavaScript is not enabled <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T49624>. - Flow topic summaries now list their authors <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T103580>. - Flow topic creations no longer appear twice <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T94360> in recent changes and history. - The template used to create mentions when using VE in Flow ({{ping}} on most wikis) is changing <https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/223363/>, so we can get rid of the colon at the end <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T99891>. The default name for the new template is {{FlowMention}}, but this name can be translated on TranslateWiki. We will create a standard version of this template on all wikis where it doesn't exist yet. - Special:EnableFlow and future Flow conversions now use a translated message <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T93395> for naming archive subpages. Language communities should translate this message on TranslateWiki, and individual wikis will be able to override it <https://ca.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Flow-conversion-archive-page-name-f…> . wmf13 deployment update

I try to send out these emails on Tuesdays, apologies for the delay. Over the next few days, wmf13 will be deployed to WMF wikis. We mostly worked on small fixes this week and on the cawiki deployment, so there aren't that many exciting things in wmf13. Some of the more noteworthy things new in wmf13 are: - The table of contents dropdown ("Browse topics") in Flow was rewritten <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T96890> and now looks a bit different. It also no longer appears in non-JS mode (where it already didn't work <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T86844>). - Flow diff views now have an undo link <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T101738> that lets you undo an edit to a post (undo links were already present in the history view). Triaging the Echo board

Hi, As your inbox might have noticed, I spent some time triaging the Echo board <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/tag/echo/>. I didn't really change priorities, mainly focused on the columns. The board now has 5 columns: * Backlog - default, untriaged. Should be empty most of the time, it isn't right now because I didn't finish. * Needs plan - still under discussion, doesn't have a clear direction or obvious reproduction steps. * Needs code - Ready for someone to pick up and write code! May not always be code related though (ex: "some images need to be reversed for RTL languages"). * In progress - in progress, should always have an assignee. * External - Things related to Echo we should be aware of, but not necessarily something we need to work on. This is based off of the board we've been using for the MediaWiki-API[1] project, which I've found generally works well.
