Hi,
Barry told me sometime back that we should consider applying for a start-up grant.
Perusing at what the other chapters did, the start-up grant usually covers:
-Legal fees & Chapter Registration
-Logistics for meetup
-Administrative expenses
-Expenses for sending 2 representatives to the Chapters Meeting.
Some other items that you should also consider before nominating yourself are:
-How dedicated are you to Wikimedia Kenya (this can be proven by number of meetings
attended)?
-What have you done for Wikimedia Kenya, thus far.
-How would your individual participation enrich the 2011 Chapters Meeting.
I'll be keenly watching this thread for any more interested nominees for attending the
Chapters' Meeting. If we will have more than 2 nominees, then we could draft a Google
Form where the nominees could answer some questions and the members vote for the best two
nominees.
Cheers,
Abbas.

Subject: Re: [Wikimedia Kenya] Chapters Meeting 2011
Hi David. It is not a bad thing to nominate yourself. Considering the period we have and
from my past experience (Wikimania 2010), it would be easier on someone who already has a
travel passport. According to me, we should consider the following when sending someone:
Someone who has thorough acquaintance with the activities of Wikimedia Kenya, ranging from
the formation to the current progress and projects...to the future plans of the chapter
Considering that the period between now and 27th March is very short, I would prefer
someone who already has a travel passport or one who is sure to acquire it by then
Though not very necessary, we should consider gender sensitivity (1 female and 1 male)
A question that needs clarity to me since I haven't visited the registration page: who
is gonna support the travel ticket and sponsor the stay there?
Consider the availability of the chosen persons. Let's not choose someone who will
later start giving apologies that they are committed somewhere and can't make it to
the conferenceI will not nominate anyone for now until I hear the sentiments of the other
team members.
Whoever we choose, please represent us well. Cheers

Guys,
Am sure you saw Bence Damokos' mail on the Wikimedia Conference 2011, we are meant to
nominate 2 people to represent us... I had assumed it was a selection so I had gone ahead
and filled the forms.
I post this to invite nominations for the same... am not sure if am allowed to but I would
nominate myself alongside someone else... but I think lets agree on a criteria for the
same, I believe it needs to be of benefit to all of us. So lets hear you.
