Hello folks,
i hope this email finds you well. Anyway, I wanted to inform you that the first WikiSaturday[1] is only a fortnight away -Yay!!! This will be on Saturday, 30th April.
Alex, kindly confirm whether iHub will be vacant and book us as appropriate.
Looking forward to seeing you there.
I am, yours,
Abbas
[1] WikiSaturday is an event where Wikim|pedians meet every last Saturday of the month and do some editing.
Ladies and gentlemen,
We got to have a meetup this weekend. My dear friend/secretary, Grace, was absent and unfortunately we didn't have a note-taker! So please pardon me, for my not-so-professional minute-writing skills.
To the members who were present: kindly add anything I might have forgotten in the minutes below. Also, if I have forgotten any member who was present/absent with apologies, I'm sorry!
All in all, this meetup had a few hiccups with venue changes and starting late; but I do believe that we had sound discussions, so thanks to those who made it :)
I am, yours,Abbas

Minutes of the Meetup held at University of Nairobi, adjacent to the Fountain of Knowledge on 09/04/2011. The Meetup started way behind schedule.

== Agenda ==
-The legal vehicle for registration was deliberated. Although most, if not all, of us agreed on choosing company limited by guarantee; we will give members a chance to vote for the model they want.
-It was also unanimously decided that the membership fee be KES500 p.a. Failure to pay this membership fee will result in that person not having membership rights, such as the right to vote.
-Basing on the KISS (Keep it Stupid n Simple) rule, we also decided to strip off all the classes of membership, and just have one category of members: ordinary members.
-It was also suggested that we add one more member to the board, so as to have an odd-numbered board for voting purposes. It was also suggested that the title of this post be Organizing Secretary or Project Manager - who will basically be involved in projects/events organizing.
-It was also suggested that the Board members can run/hold for their posts for a maximum of two consecutive years. Some (or is it most?) African leaders are notorious for clinging in power, so this was a measure suggested to counter this phenomenon. It was also argued that we could have a leader that performs so well and therefore we should not limit his/her term but rather judge by merit.
-The Nyeri team also told us about their experience -- apparently they were unaware of the official pilot document that was letter-headed by the Foundation that they could use when approaching schools.
-It was also announced that Alex Wafula had been awarded a fully-paid trip to attend Wikimania 2011, in Haifa. If there is any other person[s] going to Wikimania, kindly notify us.
The meetup was adjourned at some minutes past 1pm.-----[1] Absent with apologies - members who sent notice on the mailing list with regrets of being unable to attend.

>
> Dear all,
>
> The Wikimania jury are pleased to announce that they have selected Washington, D.C., USA as the location for Wikimania 2012[0]. The DC team presented an imaginative and exciting bid[1] that the jurors found impressive. As before, all the bids to host Wikimania had strong points in their favour and making this decision was difficult. We will send detailed feedback to each of the bids, but for now we know the winning team will appreciate the community's support and help in making a great Wikimania in 2012. The jury particularly thanks the other finalist in the process, the South African team[2] for their excellent work, and encourages them to bid again in the near future.
>
> If you have never been to a Wikimania before I would urge you to consider attending. This year the conference will be in Haifa, Israel[3], and promises to be an excellent event. Wikimania is always a great way to meet members of our global community and help improve the movement, and Washington DC looks to be a worthy successor.
>
> Our congratulations to the Washington DC team and many thanks to all of the bidders for working so hard. I encourage all bidders to use the fantastic energy they have put into their bids by hosting smaller continental or regional events, and considering another bid for Wikimania in the future.
>
> The jury welcomes looks forward to discussing the result and the Wikimania process with the community.
