Limoke Oscar,
Blessing it is the last thing on my mind. I was supposed to be in Berlin over the weekend but sadly I didn't get a visa. I'm more like cursing it!
But then again, a weekend with wmke and WordCamp Kenya's not such a bad tradeoff :-)
See you guys Saturday!
cheers,
Alex

Alex,
whatever openned it up, bless it ;-), look forward to seeing you.....
Hello, everyone.
I would like to see an
Equipment<http://wikimedia.or.ke/index.php?title=Equipment&action=edit&redlink=1>
page
on the wikimedia.or.ke wiki, tracking movement-funded equipment, such as
the two projectors and screens used in the Schools pilot. The group needs
to be transparent about where those are and how to request them for use in
Wikimedia activity. Please document this soon. Thanks.
Cheers,
Asaf

Subject: [Kiwix-testing] Kiwix 0.9 beta4 is out!
Hi
We have released a new beta of the 0.9 branch. This beta fixes mainly a
freeze problem with Windows7 and introduces filter/sort feature in the
library.
Here the complete CHANGELOG from http://changelog.kiwix.org :
* Fix regression, menu "last open" where not working anymore
* Fix regression, avoid restarting aria2 at program exit
* New content manager search/filter feature (ID: 3390515)
* Newly able to deal with more than one XML library feed
* Fixed missing link on feedback notification on OSX no growl (ID: 3419105)
* Better kiwix-serve default loading if no welcome page is defined in
ZIM (ID: 3417227)
* Fixed Freezes on Windows 7 (ID: 3422838)
* First version of kiwix-install
This version also introduces kiwix-install: a binary to easily build
Kiwix portable versions. You may test it if you use the Ubuntu packages
or compile yourself from the source code. More documentation and ports
will be soon available.
Please test as much as possible the following points:
* sort/filter feature in the library
* Kiwix on Windows7 and Vista
* New feedback system introduced with beta3
* kiwix-install (if you can)
We still want to start the release candidate cycle ASAP but will try to
avoid xulrunner-dev dependences for the compilation (necessary to get
package of Ubuntu oneiric and further) and improve aria2 process mgmt
before (important for Windows users). Next release (probably a beta5)
will be out in around 4 weeks.

Dear colleagues,
I am working on establishing a long-term partnership with an NGO named
ITOCA, dedicated to education training in Africa[1]. One aspect of our
proposed cooperation would be to introduce Wikipedia training to
the curriculum in teacher trainings ITOCA delivers. I have sent them some
training materials to review and think about, based on the training
materials[2][3] that Limoke and I had prepared for the Setswana Wikipedia
Challenge[4].
The operate throughout sub-Saharan Africa, but there is an opportunity to
be involved close to home: they are to deliver training at the Muhimbili
University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Dar es Salaam,
Tanzania, between Nov 29th and Dec 1st. They would like to try
incorporating Wikipedia training at this opportunity, and both they and I
think it would be best if we can involve a Wikipedian in this first time we
try to incorporate Wikipedia into their training curriculum.
Would one of the WMKE members who have some experience in editing *and* in
training be interested in going? We cover the airfare and accommodation,
and will pay a small "per diem" allowance for meals and local transport.
Thanks in advance,
Asaf

Hi Nice People,
I had a chat with Isla Haddow from the WikiAfrica project. She was
pleased to hear of what we are undertaking here in Kenya and across
the borders.
She informed me that they are planning to conduct an African
Incubator. The incubator is being created for the reason that, it will
break the ice about contributions to Wikipedia. So that Volunteers who
get aboard feel at home and know precisely what they are doing.
The participants are anticipated to write two articles or so with
guidance from knowledgeable Wikipedians and expectantly from there
they shall have gotten what feels like to be a Wikipedian.
FYI, The African Incubator shall be rolled out in the whole of Africa.
They are planning to do a pilot test over Christmas and then later go
live in January next year. As of now they are in the very final
preparation stages.
She called for volunteer Wikipedians who will oversee the newbies
through this process, or help in creation of the incubator by giving
suggestions on the best way forward and any Wikipedia admins would
also be more than welcome to become involved!
Your feedback regarding this project is highly appreciated and antipated.
Regards,
Stephen.
