Mbogwa (part of the Ministry's ict intergration team) will be the one to organize the list for us.
As for presenting the offline wiki, that's great (ps: my laptop can't store charge so guess we'll use yours :) )
Hey Sam, hope you'll be able to make it, I don't think I've seen you since the video call at Google.
I'll be giving you guys an update of the meeting's date during the course of the week.
Regards,
Alex.

Hi guys,
MoE hopes we could have another meet-up this week and the expects us to avail
the info below:
* A list of what we need from them to make this possible
* Funding sources for the project
* Implementation plan
* Project scope (is it nation wide, within Nairobi etc)I'll make a draft and
place it on Google docs for you guys to add your thoughts so that I can come up
with a final draft.
Cheers!
Alex!
Hi Guys,
I spoke to KDNs R&D manager regarding the Wikipedia for Schools project we have
going on and KDN's possible sponsorship of the project. The forward below is
what he had to say.
6 months seems long so I told him I'll talk to you guys first. Give me your
thoughts on this.
ps: they can also sponsor future events
regards,
Alex.

Hi Alex,
Wonderful idea! I can see a great future in the project; but until at least
March next year, KDN budgets are really tight. I really feel that we can take
the project on if you are willing to wait for around 6 months.
As for your recommendation letter, the HR is taking time to respond. Let me send
her a reminder.
Regards,
Zuhair Jaffer,
R&D Manager,
Kenya Data Networks.
Hi Oscar,
Think I agree with you on this. I'd suggest use of posters (on campus news boards) to sensitise students on Wikiversity as well as other Wikimedia projects. Articles on uni websites would also be great.
As for the offline Wikipedia for schools, I suggest we first come up with an implementation plan for us to determine its requirements. This we'll be able to identify what we can manage as a team and what we'll need help with say from the Foundation, MoE or any other source. Plus Barry's advice on liasing with local friendly NGOs sounds great, we should look into it.
Hope we can have a draft of this say by next week for us to have another meeting with MoE.
Looking forward to read your thoughts on this.
Cheers
Alex

Hi,
I've just received intel from a fourth-year medical student at University of Nairobi regarding Wikiversity. She just told me that Wikiversity has lots of stuff in relation to what their Medicine curriculum. So apart from gettng an offline Wikipedia, is it possible for us to get an offline version of Wikiversity too? Seems that it'll be of great help to university students.

Hi guys,
The meeting over at MoE went well, in fact, I met with the ICT integration team
from the Ministry. They were rushing for another meeting so we didn't talk much
but they are really interested in this. They have the information we require and
suggested we have another meeting for further discussions.
We are to come up with the following before our next meet-up:
* A list of what we need from them to make this possible
* Funding sources for the project
* Implementation plan
* Project scope (is it nation wide, within Nairobi etc)From here, they'll be
able to provide us with intro letters for schools we choose to visit. They
didn't mention this but I think they can assist in implementation.
So give me your thoughts and I'll come up with a doc to present to them next
time we meet.
ps: one or two guys can accompany me next time, any volunteers?
Cheers!
Alex!

I suppose everyone of you is familiar with the United Nations Millenium Development Goals. Of particular interest to me is Goal 2: Achieve Universal Primary Education by 2015. According to the report released by ActionAid last week, Kenya is said to be lagging behind, in comparison with Uganda & Tanzania. I was thinking of is partnering with the UN and integrating with them, in say, the use of Wiki in achieving Free Education for All. Does anyone of you know of people in the UN that we could approach, and see whether we could garner their support, financial or otherwise?
~Abbas.
Hi guys,
I was to get a list of public schools with computer labs from the ict board. I spoke to them and I was directed to the Ministry of Education. I will be meeting with an official of the ministry tomorrow to discuss this further.
The official I'm going to meet also hinted that we require permission from thd ministry to instal the offline wiki in public schools. So I'll update you tomorrow on what we'll have discussed.
Cheers
Alex
Thank you all for your commitment. I have personally never used Kiwix
before so I am not familiar with it. However, I have visited
http://schools-wikipedia.org/ and I am currently downloading the
website. I don't think it should have any problem running on windows.
Besides the size is manageable and can be loaded into a DVD for
distribution. As for the meeting that was to take place, I am really
sorry since I was so occupied that I never found time to be online for
updates. Should you decide that we should meet physically I will be
all ears. Thanks
