Subject: open IRC meeting w/ Wikimedia Trustees: this Friday, 1800 UTC
To: Wikimedia Foundation Mailing List
<foundation-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>, Wikipedia list
<wikipedia-l(a)wikimedia.org>
Hello,
We wanted to have a more informal forum for discussing Wikimedia
issues with Board members, so the three new Wikimedia Trustees (Arne,
Matt, and myself) are hosting an open meeting on IRC in #wikimedia
this Friday.
Where : #wikimedia
When : Friday September 11, 1800-1900 UTC
(11:00-12:00 PST / 14:00-15:00EST / 20:00-21:00CEST)
Other Board members will hopefully be there as well; we picked a time
when we knew all of the new members could attend. Please join with
any thoughts or questions you have for the Board or about Wikimedia in
general. If you'd like to see something on the agenda, whether or not
you can attend in person, please add it here:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Wikimedia_meetings#September_open_meeti…
Since we only have an hour, we will try to keep to the agenda. New
topics brought up after noon UTC the day of the meeting will be
addressed on-wiki if we run out of time.
I'm looking for someone to help moderate the chat. If interested,
please reply offlist. Thanks!

Scientific Article Writing Competition. Minimum 3,700 USD is to be awarded
**
To increase exposure of his revolutionary approach to understanding
individual and group behaviors, Miklós Fodor, author of 'Self-Expansion: A
New Paradigm for Psychology' <http://stores.lulu.com/fodor> announces a
social sciences article writing
competition<http://www.psy2.org/index.php?n=Competition.DetailedDescription>awarding
*minimum $3,700*<http://www.psy2.org/index.php?n=Competition.Shortdescription#prizes>in
prizes.
Fodor, who holds degrees in psychology, political science, and economics,
stresses that the competition is not only geared towards psychologists, but
is open to all social science researchers and students. There are two
categories:
- *academic and practicing professionals*, and
- *undergraduate students*.
There is no specified topic for articles. However, to be considered, the
“end product” should contain a detailed consideration of the *the featured
model (FIPP - Fodormik's Integrated Paradigm for
Psychology)*<http://www.psy2.org/index.php?n=Psy2.Fipp>in connection
with the article’s main topic. Some strategies that can lead
to such an article include:
- investigation of the FIPP concept’s usability within your own research
field
- connecting FIPP, or parts of it, to major findings and current trends
in psychology
- creating a new research or test that argues pro or contra the relevance
of FIPP. (Special scholarships are available in the case of particularly
promising experiments)
- reviewing the book - “Self-expansion: an integrated paradigm for
psychology” - to include scientific evidence pro or contra the book as a
whole or in part
*If you are working on publishing a paper, connect your topic to FIPP,
submit it, and we will consider that as your competition entry.*
*Prizes*:
- Two Grand Prizes (one each category): $1,000
- Two Second Place Prizes (one each category): $350
- Two Third Place Prizes (one each category): $250
- Fourth, Fifth and Six Place Prizes (in categories with more than 50
contestants): $150
- Miklós Fodor's Special Prize: $500
The goal of this competition is not to write articles just for competition's
sake: all contestants will receive an award of $150 when their article is
published in science journals or major international broadsheet newspapers!
The first five competition submissions in each of the two categories (senior
and undergraduate) will be awarded a printed copy of 'Self-Expansion'.
The final choice of winners in each category will be decided by a vote of
the contestants themselves.
To learn more about Miklós Fodor and his new book, browse www.psy2.org.
Following registration <http://www.psy2.org/index.php?n=Main.Register>, you
will be able to download the .pdf version of his book 'Self-Expansion', to
familiarize yourself with the key concepts. If you are interested in further
participation, send a brief description outlining the way(s) in which FIPP
relates to your research topic, the field you are working in, or area of
interest.
*A detailed description of the competition and the timing can be found
here<http://www.psy2.org/index.php?n=Competition.DetailedDescription>
!* Submission deadline: *September 30, 2009*.
