[Wikimedia Kenya] Kakamega Pilot

Hi guys, With regards to the Kakamega pilot, the following should be ready: -DVDs with copies of the Wikipedia for schools zim file as well as Kiwix for Windows, Linux and Mac -4GB flash disks for installation purposes -Wikimedia leaflets and swag -Banners, projectors Abbas, are the DVDs and leaflets ready? If not, we should start setting these up so as to avoid a last minute rush. Alex.

Dear all, Based on the input you have given through the brainstorming page[1] I have put the first draft of the schedule of this year's Chapters Meeting online at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Conference_2011/Schedule, Note that this is not the final schedule. I would like to incorporate your feedback on the draft and to assign specific content to the broader or vaguer topics – if you have any suggestions on this, please get in touch with me. As you will notice, there are about three major topic areas that come up in a number of sessions. The main themes build on the discussions we had in the previous years on chapter projects (outreach and otherwise) and development. New this year is the emphasis given to the discussion about various aspects of movement roles that will hopefully clarify and improve on the relationships among actors in the movement and inform the development of a movement charter due by this year's Wikimania. Time will be set aside also for discussion in smaller groups about some specific issue that you would like to tackle. Some suggestions so far have been: creating a framework to handle justified legal complaints; to continue the discussion about the developing world and concrete steps Wikimedia can do to spread its mission, or to continue the toolserver governance discussion. I would very much appreciate your input either here or in private about your thoughts on the schedule, possible working groups, or the content of particular sessions. Hi Guys, We appreciate your support and congratulatory messages. My team are asking to know if we will get support from you guys as we prepare to participate in the National exhibitions organized by Commission of higher education Kenya. The venue will be Kakamega on 17th-19th march and we plan to forward our project tomorrow. Our worry is we don't have posters and any other accompanying material, that is the challenge we faced during the open day, infact we were forced to create and print wikimedia leaflets and posters for our stand. Hi guys, Sometime back, Isaac a student at Egerton University posted some activities that he and a team of other Egerton students have been doing to create awareness of Wikimedia as well as the schools project in there university. These included distributing the Wikipedia for schools zim file and Kiwix around their region as well as setting up a Wikipedia stand in an Open Day at their campus. I feel that the magnitude of the work this team has done hasn't quite been recognized. So far, the Egerton group has been able to visit 6 schools with regards to the schools project as well as represent Wikimedia Kenya during their open day and even had the Minister of higher education visit their stand. They've also received great feedback from the schools they've visited so far which Isaac will make available. So I'd like to give a thumbs up to the Egerton team for the awesome work done and acknowledge the presence of active Wikimedians in Nakuru. With this said, we should really come up with strategies to support and recognize activities from Wikimedians and new contributors from all over Kenya so as to have a sustinable growth of Wikimedia Kenya. cheers, Alex

Yah, Oscar's suggestion sounds great, we should have a meetup this coming Saturday to discuss the bylaws as well as prepare for the Kakamega pilot. This also brings up an issue I raised sometime back discussing the bylaws on email alone is a bit tricky considering how broad it is so we also need to have this up on a wiki. Alex.
